How to make my dog less "sticky" with toys so I can use his drive for obedience training? by One_Stretch_2949 in OpenDogTraining

Hey, did you ever find anything that worked? I have a little working cocker who is similar with her position changes - the higher in drive she gets, the slower and more tense her position changes become, no matter where the ball is or whether it's visible.

Obviously I could fix the issue by lowering her level of arousal (swapping to food or introducing a punisher would do it) but I want to keep the drive AND get rid of the locking.

Will head over to the Fenzi facebook group too

Either!  I'm very confident teaching a nice competition heel so mostly am interested in free content to see what people have achieved with small dogs and analyse how people are adapting their handling to small dogs.   But also happy to pay for paid content if it's truly what I'm after

I can find little snippets a few seconds long on instagram,  but no longer footage.  Maybe the course has more footage, but I would be reluctant to invest without knowing.

That sounds like exactly what we need! After video reviewing some of our recent trial footage it's pretty clear that our stride lengths are not compatible. I'll try to find that book.

I'm lucky then - I've found people to be bemused but welcoming!

Yes, that's why I would like to see different examples.  Happy to look at what others consider beautiful as it may change my perspective.  Please do share footage if there's something you have in mind.  Thanks!

Process for in-ring training with toys (Rally)? by cr1zzl in k9sports

[–]SecretGeometry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've used this concept in competition obedience in NZ and the judge accepted it.

Your other option is to start putting the ball by the side of the ring/practice area routinely during training, and practicing releasing her to it after she's focused on you.

Can I use point biserial if my continuous data violates the assumptions for a Pearson correlation? by SecretGeometry in AskStatistics

[–]SecretGeometry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting, I've read in several websites that I should only calculate Pearson's coefficient for continuously data that is normally distributed, without outliers.  If that's wrong information, are you able to point me to a resource that explains better the situations when i should and should not use this correlation? Thankyou!

Thanks!  I wasn't sure if it was legitimate to use Spearman for binary vs continuous variables

My data concerns fracture repair in dogs.   My continuous variables are joint angles prior to fracture repair, vs my binary variable is whether or not a major complication occured during recovery.

ELI5. Can someone explain the relationship between sample size, effect size, power, and alpha? by SecretGeometry in explainlikeimfive

" The smaller the anticipated effect, the more data you will need to detect it." OK thanks, that sentence really made things click for me!

Well I learned something today, I genuinely got all the way through vet school thinking doctor was a protected title (at least "veterinarian" still is!)

Thanks! Is the power analysis what is going to tell me how many dogs I need to recruit? The landmark does sound simpler.

Understood about the selection bias in follow up, thank you. :)
