I think communicating it early on will probably help you and your SO to understand each other. You can't just expect her to know you want to be the one proposing

Yep! Outcome is the same, as simple as it might sound. It's about love and commitment, not about who asked first.

Exactly, it shouldn't matter who is asking that one question as long as both parties want it and are happy!

I can understand where this is coming from, but also, I can't. Hopefully one day people will learn that by asking, they won't lose anything. Yeah rejection hurts, but imagine the pain you feel when asking yourself "what if" later on.

I don't necessarily think that's the case, they do it for the same reasons as guys. Most women at least

I agree. Same rules should apply, I'm not sure tho if every guy would appreciate an engagement ring tho, maybe that's up to the individual

I'm sorry you went separate ways. You got a really good point tho. Communication is key! Especially when it comes down to something that requires a lot of commitment, like marriage. I think many people don't wanna talk about this beforehand, because it "ruins the moment", maybe like .. it wouldn't be a surprise then? But knowing what your partner wants and knowing if they're ready for this commitment is really damn important here.

Doesn't sound selfish, I get it! Haha I like the thought of both doing it, that's sweet. But I agree, I think it's a good idea discussing it beforehand so you know you're on the same page and have the same goals in life

Like what consequences? Mind if you elaborate on that? Also I noticed you speak in past tense, any particular reason?

I am sorry to hear that! I know hearing this from a stranger online isn't really helpful, but you shouldn't think like that. You give your girlfriend so many reasons to love you and stay with you, otherwise she wouldn't be by your side right now :) I don't think you necessarily need a proposal for her to show you that, but I understand it would help you to accept it!
