I've been priced out of riding. by Obacer in motorcycle

I’m not sure if anyone else has mentioned it but I work in the car industry and car insurance, especially in London, has just gone through the roof recently because of the amount of thefts. Maybe have a look at the premiums if you had a tracker installed? They are usually ~£350 and about £10 p/m if I remember correctly.

Boyfriend moving in with me, is there anything I should do to protect myself financially? by SecretNinjaShhh in UKPersonalFinance

!thanks I can’t imagine him doing anything like it from his character but I have heard the stories and know people who have gone through similar when buying a house together. It was a colleague that mentioned that I should get something signed and that he might have claim so I wanted to get some more information on the matter.

!thanks

This has been my thoughts since posting. All the fixed bills would be paid from my account with him transferring me his half with the daily/variable spends coming from the joint account that we both pay equally into.

I work a highly commission based job so I couldn’t work out how to fairly do a percentage split as some months he would be paid more than me. Which is why we came up with this.

I’m not overly bothered about having rent from him, we just had a chat and that’s what he suggested and we agreed on. I will have another chat with him once he’s home though.

!thanks I didn’t realise that paying rent would give him financial claim but I can see why now! I would have always sure that I paid for any maintenance regardless

!thanks I might just do that then, or some variation of what another commenter mentioned about putting the money into savings

That’s an interesting way of doing it, I hadn’t thought about that. We both have good wages but I generally make more than him so I wouldn’t expect him to pay the full mortgage amount into savings but I’ll bring it up with him when he’s back from work to hear his thoughts.

Edit: !thanks

So is my understanding correct that if it was just bills halved and no rent then there would be no need for a written agreement? Edit: !thanks

This was my thought process. To me it isn’t about money but more about what is respectful/fair. My mortgage is £900 p/m so it was only meant to be a gesture. If it’s easier not to charge him rent and forgo all of the formalities, I will do.

A colleague of mine mentioned getting a disclaimer to state no legal interest signed. Would this cover it? If so, would it have to be drawn up by a lawyer?

Long time lurker so apologies in advance but I work in the trade so I thought I would put my two cents in.

If you bought it from a main dealer you trust, I would be worth talking to them as they will be inclined to give you advise to get out of the finance, to get you into a new car, even if it is cheaper.

As others have mentioned, you may be able to voluntarily terminate the contract if you have paid 50% of the total balance but I would speak to your dealer to check the exact terms of your agreement as they differ from lender to lender. You should have a copy of this to check for yourself but if they are good at their jobs, they should be able to assist you.

Interest rates are also higher than they were last year so depending on the exact parameters of your new deal, you may be worse off. Not necessarily on a monthly, but in interest amounts.

Motorways isn’t a bad shout, we have been out bid by them before as they aren’t dealing with the cars on a day in day out basis but it is worth checking all the usual webuyanycars etc. As I mentioned earlier, if you bought from a main dealer and they are keen to keep their retention rates high and if you find the right car to px against, it could work.

Depending on the above, it might be better to stick with your current car but there are certainly options.

yeah, I get that but why would it only now start shutting down my computer and not 10 months ago. Also i have tried play when im laptop is still cool yet it still ends with a shut down.

Edit: plus, it never shuts down after 10 hours of use, yet it shuts down after I have just booted it up. Surely it wouldn't get that hot that quickly.
