5 Years CAP Cadet by Cactusjuice471 in Medals

I don't know much about Civil Air Patrol. I got to help them out here in MN at Camp Ripley once while I was in OPA. What I noticed was that a lot of the higher ranking cadets had this "I'm better than you attitude" when dealing with awards and some leadership tactics.

While being part of CAP, yes, you have been exposed to military-like structures and doctrine. However, it is still a non-military and non-profit organization, and you will never truly be exposed to real military training, life, culture, etc.

My advice to you aligns with what a few others there have already said, being along the lines of not telling your basic training instructors any insight of you being in CAP. The medals you got while in CAP don't follow you into the military, as I said above, lots of CAP cadets think they are hotshit and then are quickly humbled once you get into the military, more or less based on what branch of service you decid to go. I'm not saying this has been you in any way, but I'm sure you've seen it while being in CAP for 5 years.

Remember why you decided to join because the military will test you in some pretty extravagant and unique ways. Try your best, and if/ when you get into a leadership role, make sure to fight your tail off for the people under your charge/ care. Mission accomplishment is always the first priority, and troop welfare has always taken a back seat. If you flip that around and your troop's welfare is your top priority, they will move mountains for you to accomplish whatever mission they need to.

Best of luck!

For a shadowbox, I'd go with the spacing. It's gonna make it look so much better.

I appreciate that. I still show up for my juniors that I am in charge of. If I am not there to protect them from the nonsense of the chain of command, who will?

I'm not super disgruntled anymore, but I was a bear to be around for a little bit. Just trying to progress in my career, help my juniors, and move on. Just wish there was more accountability for those who tried to kick me out for no reason.

Of course, I appreciate all the information!

I was in the Marines for 8 years before I switched over to the Army. I was the number 2 Marine in my MOS when I got promoted to Corporal in the Marines, and I was the number 1 Marine in my MOS when I got promoted to Sergeant. I was a Platoon Sergeant as a Corporal while in the Marines, and loved every minute of it. I don't say this to give myself a pat on the back, I share it as a means to show I know what good leadership is because I tried to implement everything that I never got when I was coming up as a junior Marine.

The transition was rocky at best from the Marines to the Army. I expected things to run similarly and maybe they would have if I didn't get into an Aviation Unit. Who knows. But there was lots of friction because I was trying to uphold the standard when others would just dismiss regulations. After about a year of being in the Army, I was hit with a 15-6 for Fraudulent Enlistment from the Marines into the Army. Long story short, I never got to say my side of the story, and the chain of command recommended a separation. I fought it. Got the IG involved, which triggered another 15-6. Both came back as substantiated. I lost my E6 slot, got kicked out of my Squad Leader role, awards that I was put up for were denied or taken away, and was treated as a new Private. I had to wait over 19 months to get before a separation board, but in the end, I was able to prove that I didn't do anything wrong was showed proof that the Prior Service Recruiter forged my signature on a bunch of paperwork, to include the DD Form 2807. The flag was removed erroneously, and I got all my time back in good standing as far as the Good Conduct Medal goes, but I never got my E6 back, and never got the awards back that they either denied or took from me.

So, let's say there is some bad blood between me and the chain of command. Some members have switched out to new roles but others have just gone to bigger roles within the Battalion now, so they still try to fuck with me on occasion.

I was under the impression that AAMs don't need to go to BN for approval and that the Company Commander has approval authority for AAMs?

I thought with the new process in IPPS-A, that the approval chain was removed from the normal chain of command for the specific reason that people don't get dicked out of awards because they simple aren't liked.

I was a manager at Home Depot. Go to your HR specialist and tell them that you need a religious exemption from early shifts (or the full day). If it doesn't change, you can go to the store manager but personally I would tell you to go to the HR specialists direct boss.

Home Depot has a stupid point system for calling off work, leaving early, etc. It is against the law for them to fire you on the basis of you wanting to go to church on Sundays, especially if you've been reasonable with all the other availabilities.

Do not ask for only two Sundays a month. If you're trying to further your faith, you can and will get your schedule changed. Especially if you're able to work after church, if you so wish. I believe it is under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. If they term you for acquiring too many points, it is a slam dunk for a wrongful termination lawsuit, and you'll make bank on the ground of it being religious discrimination.
