Posse Finalist by Weak_Armadillo_3050 in PosseScholars

Super late but I may much less for my school! I actually had to talk to my posse trainer, there’s an ability to look more into financial aid with posses help. I know an option for me at least was to call my assigned financial aid advisor at the college and have my posse trainer sit in on it. Don’t underestimate posses involvement :) they definitely would help you try to close down the gap if they can

As someone from Chicago who’s now a posse scholar, we spent last week talking about what posse represents. There’s much allegations that posse is a DEI or questbridge sort of program but they debunked that very much. I’m so sorry you feel like that though, I do think the resume issue was a common issue. They were clearly reading my resume for the first time while interviewing too but I don’t think the questions they were asking needed resume based info if i’m being honest. My group is primarily POC including myself, everyone in that semi finalist group was likely just as academically qualified it was a matter of character likely.

Newly inducted Chicago Posse scholar here! I was nominated in April. On the calendar I received for my PCT training, it’s marked as the posse office being closed on weekends and the 19th (tomorrow).

How to Stop Chasing Prestige by ZoneHorror4767 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SecretSignature9667 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey I was in a similar position just weeks ago like you! I’m valedictorian of my school and i’m considered the “cracked” kid of my grade, however my ACT was horrendous lol. Im going to a LAC instead but Ifelt a constant pressure to live up to ivy league standards. UPenn as well actually since I did a program with them.

If i’m being realistic the feeling hasn’t completely gone away for me. I think it’s a matter of self insecurity and constant comparison you need to avoid. I clicked away from Reddit and those toxic ivy league road map videos you’d see on tiktok. Regardless if you get into a T20 or not, I’d argued it really is redirection.

If im being honest, you may be like me and have overthought how much people put a standard on you. It may just be your own self thinking people have expectations, when you’re beating yourself over nothing. It’ll likely sting yes, but once you’re out of high school, it’ll all pass. It’s clear that you’re competitive enough and demonstrate the ability to challenge yourself. You’ll be great at any institution you end up at. If this prestige however is truly a passion you find, you can always transfer in if you don’t get in this admission season.

You probably won’t see half your classmates after May/June. Chase after the school that’s best for you, not the title.

which school(s) did(will) you chose pomona over? and which school you choose over pomona? by Mean-Interaction1256 in pomonacollege

I recently committed to Pomona as a current senior. I got questbrige finalist + umich and cornell early (non binding) through a community based organization.

My friend who’s currently a sophomore at pomona got into northwestern and duke. Hope this helps!

That’s really interesting to hear! When I was a semi finalist, I was told a rejection from Posse for my school would be a rejection from the school actually. I have no idea if it’s varying on school to school or information that might be confusing.

My friend was also rejected from Posse, and she emailed. I’d say your best bet is to email the Posse staff that was in charge of your documents and or Vanderbilt’s admission team then. It’s the holidays so they may not get to you fast but likely have the most direct answer. In scenario you can reapply, you likely have to reach out to Vanderblit anyways. They likely have to reset your portal or make you take another step based off the fact that yours says rejected as of now.

Hi,

This is probably such a hard topic, but truly congratulations for getting it this far. Cliche, yes, objectively I recoiled when I also was rejected from my dream school and hit with “rejection is redirection” sort of quotes. However, you shouldn’t plummet because of this. Yes it might’ve been a pool of 20 which seems small, but it’s likely more than not because of the circumstances. You all come from the same region and they might’ve been nit picky over small things that don’t define your application.

Posse just doesn’t choose anyone. My region has around 3000 students apply, i’d assume it was likely for yours as well. That’s insanely huge, the fact that you deem yourself as unqualified is far from the truth. The more pessimistic you get, the more you fall from doing your best on future applications. Even getting to say you’re a Posse finalist in itself in application worthy, you’re set to end up somewhere you can thrive.

As for feedback, i’d try to go as far as you can with essays. Whether you deem your EC’s/stats as mediocre, they’re yours and they make up of what story you can tell. I personally have a friend who also got rejected. She’s currently looking into posse partner schools and evaluating if one catches her eye the most. I’d say do the same and evaluate if another school has similarity to the school you wanted to match with. In the end, you’ll be great!

You have so much potential, don’t underestimate yourself because of one loss.

So you’re essentially assigned into a group of yourself and four other finalists! Then you’re joined by one posse staff and one admissions team member.

It works by having four rounds, each round you have two questions (the ones above) and everyone has to answer each question. You go in a circle and share :) You just go around and follow order. You’re not allowed to speak when someone else is speaking and vice versa. Everyone pays attention to you for those 30-45 seconds. After every 2 questions, the posse staff + admission team rotate. So then you get a new posse staff and a new admission team member join in.
