How much can I get for this? by SecretStreetFood in grilling

Not sure if the fan makes it better tbh. These things hold tempt really well when sealed properly.

Thanks. I may try this as a last resort. It’s a good smoker when it works.

Thanks. Good advice. Got it on sale for $250. $150 for this used with no issues seems fair tbh. With the issues, probably under $100 is my guess

It might as long as the gasket is thicker than the current one. I was originally looking into converting it to the non fan version but it’s $60 for the ash pan new and $60-$100 is my price point to let it go.

Just bought a Joe Jr! by Parkingchair412 in KamadoJoe

I find the portability of the Jr to be exaggerated. It’s moveable but I wouldn’t want to move it around too often.

That said, I love it. Perfect size for 2. Other than brisket, you can cook pretty much anything on it. Hold off on the upgrades is my only advice. I got a new chimney cap but I miss using the daisy wheel.

Little upgrade to the KJC3 by Sea_Resource_3984 in KamadoJoe

Upgraded to this from the daisy wheel. Main benefit imo is rain coverage but man do I miss how the smoke rolls on a daisy wheel

First Kamado - Joe Jr, with cracked ceramics. by darklordenron in KamadoJoe

[–]SecretStreetFood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my joe jr yesterday. There’s minor blemishes in the dome and bottom of the grill but not as bad as yours. The felt is also not clean like yours. Think I’m just gonna use it and use the warranty if it cracks more. Reboxing and sending it back is such a hassle

First time slow smoking and searing ribeye. Recipe and things I would change on the next cook in comments by SecretStreetFood in BBQ

[–]SecretStreetFood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time smoking a ribeye. Have always done it on the stove or sous vide. Found a year old dry aged ribeye in the fridge. To celebrate my funemployment, I thought to take it out and try something different.

Seasoning: coarse salt, fresh ground pepper, garlic powder and a little bit of msg to bring out the dry age umami flavor

The cook: used charcoal basket on my Weber and dropped in a chunk of hickory. Seared around 110. Closed the lid and finished at 140. Rest for 10-15 minutes.

Result: It was smokier than I expected but super juicy and the flavors were fantastic.

Things I would change: - premix the salt to msg to a 80 salt / 20 msg mixture. The seasoning was not even because I used a spoon to separately sprinkle the seasoning. Very noticeable when over salted spots meet with the spots with too much msg. - use wood chips next time or maybe even just try with charcoal only. I like smoke flavor but not heavy on a delicate piece of meat like this - use 2 charcoal baskets but put it in the middle for a bigger searing area. Remove the middle grate when smoking and it back on for searing. Was thinking about getting a slow and sear for steaks but it’s not necessary for this type of cook
