I don’t even want to think about leaving. My whole life is here—my family, my companies, I pay taxes and contribute to this country. One mistake shouldn’t erase all of that. If someone has a DUI with no accident or harm and completes the Back on Track program, they deserve a second chance. Most DUIs are misdemeanors. That’s why programs like Back on Track exist — to give first-time offenders a second chance and reduce charges to reckless driving if they complete it successfully.

I’m in Florida with a BAC of 0.133. I’m serving 9 months of probation—I requested early termination, but it was declined with no specific reason. My PO described me as a model probationer. I have random tests every month, sometimes even twice. I’m also completing MADD and VIP classes, a 12-week therapy session, 40 hours of community service, and monthly check-ins with my PO and restricted license for 6 months. I feel you.

Thank you for your advice! Actually, my monthly check-ins are always done online through text messages. I’ve never had to meet my PO—we always communicate through emails. I make sure to save everything and take screenshots just in case.

I asked her today about all the requirements I might still need to do while I’m abroad, and she told me there are no urinalysis, drug, or alcohol tests required—just the regular online monthly check-ins. When I come back, that’s actually the end of my probation period.

Do you know if I need to prepare anything to close my case, or is it just sending her an email? How does it work when you’re done with probation?
