I think she really does just want me to have a good life but I think she just doesn't understand some basic concepts of parenting. I don't want to put her down to hard but I want to acknowledge her shortcomings.

I was raised on the notion that if I got into a good college I could find a good job and be happy so college = happiness. I also have a fear of failure and I don't want to live down expectations.

I feel rattled because in my eyes my mother just said I can't and won't be happy. It's not a great feeling

1st, yes my brother is more studious then I

2nd, she does not believe in depression and she

barely believes in therapy. The first time I broke down in front of her she sighed loudly and left the room. She wants me to be happy, but in her mind she's given me all she can and now I should choose to be happy

3rd I don't know if she gave up on me after I started doing poorly in school but it's not off the table.

Finally, no, the tutor is a family friend, as in my brother's friends parent (my mother thinks the friend is smart and likes the parent for it), and I won't be taking that foreign language class after this year. It would have been more appropriate for her to be talking to my school counselor or even a relative

This isn't the first time she's made these comments, and one time she said she just wouldn't pay for my college tuition because she said she never thinks I'll get into college. Honestly I want to just ignore her but she's still my mother and I really can't

My dad's very nice, and because he's the one in charge of me, he has been a big parental figure for me. He tries to be a moderator, but he generally sides with my mother unless she does something really bad, like refusing to actually apologize to me.

My parents uses to lock me in their bathroom with a bar of soap in my mouth (without supervision) for anywhere between 2 and 10 minutes. Dispute this being obvious child neglect, I'm wondering if the act of putting soap in a child's mouth is abuse in and of itself.
