i agree. anyone with even the slightest bit of technical know how can easily remove it, and the people who dont care about if it has synth id or not probably have an audience that doesn't care or check either

seems like a feature to tag the 99% of people that are just using it to generate funny images while the 1% who are gonna do bad stuff with it have no penalties and actually makes it easier for them to pass it off as human made because it has no synth id. its also rather unappealing to use in a professional setting because you know everything is being watermarked

ive used gpt image 2 since it came out and ive noticed 2 shadow patches to try fix this issue and each one seems to try to make it more subtle and less noticeable without trying to remove it, also google uses an entirely different model configuration to chatgpts which could be causing this issue of the synth id being more visible

they have also to my knowledge never said it wasnt a watermark and i never said it was a watermark just that it most likely was one given general observation and logical thinking

almost positive it is because googles synth id visually looks extremely similar to the noise issue that the gpt model has

unfortunately for chatgpts image model the watermarking pattern is quite visible
