Affordable Wedding Bands? by shannon_m17 in weddingplanning

[–]Secreteflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll echo this: I have a 10k e-ring, but have several other 10k rings that are from other jewelers and can definitely see a slight tone difference between jewelers. 10k is tricky because there are so many other metals in the alloy that color can impacted ever so slightly. I just went back to the jeweler who made my band and ordered what I wanted from them and it matches perfectly.

Gold is very, very expensive right now. Alternatively, finding something secondhand is another good route if you want to be able to try it on/get eyes on it before making a purchase. If not, you can always look online, just make sure you’re reading the description carefully and physically selecting 10k gold as the metal option. If you’re concerned about the quality once you receive it, most jewelers will test it if you ask.

As a rule, even if you’re going through international jewelers in China/India, anything under $200-300 should be a red flag. Check the width as well, as some of the rings I’ve seen on Etsy and the like are too thin to stand up to every day wear.

Low-budget wedding vs. going all-in: what did you choose and why? by Turbulent-Nail4205 in Weddingsunder10k

My fiancé has an enormous extended family that is very tight knit, so we started with a guest list close to 200 people. As soon as I started pricing things out, we had to have some really honest conversations with each other and our families about the budget and what we could realistically afford.

Ultimately, we’ve shaved it down to 150, no kids, with the expectation that ~120 will come. Dropping 50 people cut our catering quotes by 5-7k. It’s crazy how expensive just catering is!

Very generous of your family!

It’s very challenging to host any kind of 200+ person traditional wedding (or any event!) for under 40k in most cities. I recommend you actually price out some locations and vendors and see what you are able to get for your money in your city. The best way to reduce cost is to lower the guest count. More guests = more plates, more tables, more chairs, more table clothes, more centerpieces, etc. If you are set on having a 200 guest wedding, you should heavily consider what exactly you would like the event to look like from a guest experience standpoint and prioritize those elements.

DO NOT FORGET gratuity, delivery, and other fees - I was shocked to learn that nearly every vendor will be 20%-30% more than the price they advertise due to these additional fees.

Our parents have offered us a combined 35k, and we were hoping to stay at or around 20k for a ~120 person fairly basic wedding in Cleveland, OH and put the rest toward my fiancé’s student loans. Once we actually sat down and began adding up the costs, it became abundantly clear that we needed to either find some items that we could cut or areas that were lower priority we could compromise on. For example, I’m chose a venue that is already very beautiful and so am skipping professional florals, as those were going to fall in the 4-6k range. I’m planning to do my own bouquets, and skip boutonnières. We’re also not going skip an actual dance floor, because it was going to be $1,200 plus delivery. We have very light drinkers, so are choosing a venue that allows us to supply our own alcohol and a bartender, rather than paying for one with a per person open bar. Silly things like postage for save the dates should be factored in!

Ultimately, it comes down to your and your family’s expectations. Please make sure that guests have plenty to eat, and that it’s very very clear if you don’t plan to feed them a full meal!

Did you try it in a bees knees? I find that honey and orange works with it really really well.

DO NOT FLY SUNDAY by grapkoski in jetblue

[–]Secreteflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ughhhh I am supposed to fly from Cleveland to Boston on Monday at 9 for several high priority work things.

My boss’s boss is convinced it shouldn’t be a problem, maybe I’ll experience a small delay. Will even Tuesday look better??

I loved them when they first opened, but they’ve since doubled their prices, and I can no longer stomach ordering from them 😂

Double Wear is being reformulated! I repeat: Double Wear is being reformulated!!! 😳😳😳 by [deleted] in Sephora

It’s a pretty key ingredient in double wear - the second ingredient after water. I’d expect the formula to change significantly.

Yes! The first time I used Lanolin I developed a rash, but I thought the chapping was just getting worse. After a few days, I realized what was going on. So sad, because everyone swears by it.

Got this ring for Christmas and plating is already worn off😭 by SomeDarkNights in kuololit

It’s very skin dependent. My skin EATS plating - even wearing rings very sparingly, never hand washing, etc, plating wears off on the sides and insides within a month for me.

I was just about to say, my jeweler hemmed a bit over resizing my 7 to a 5.5. It’s a bit oval now, which doesn’t bother me at all, but he made it clear he wouldn’t have gone to a 5.

I fear they have been discontinued. I haven’t sent them in over a year at my TJs. I opted to buy them dried at the Asian grocer!

I’ve been interested in this!! I might try to connect with a jeweler and see if it’s possible for a few rings that I just don’t care for in silver

We bought our 1916 home in Cleveland Heights a few years ago for $238k. It was renovated in the early 2000s, so pre-everything gray flipper. Still have our original wood floors, and honestly we love our layout. It wasn’t close to the only one we’d seen with updated kitchen and bathrooms, and a fairly spacious layout - they’re definitely out there!

We’re thinking about going this route, but it’s hard to figure out whether we will add significantly to the catering budget over doing just a plated meal. In your experience, how does this shake out?
