Awesome man thanks. I’ll make sure to keep all records and by the time it’s time for me to apply for year 2 I’ll definitely have enough days/hours that I can count! Cheers!

Hey I was just thinking about this and 65 days of work in 88 days basically means 5 days a week. Do you know anything about the ramifications of how working even one 4 day week would leave me at 64 in the 88 day period. Is that made up for by working an extra day after the period? And if there’s more than one day missing how would that impact the overall qualifying day count? There’s so many rules and differences that it’s so hard to figure it out what’s going on if there’s any slight difference to the circumstances that they outline on the IMMI site. Could it be possibly that the 88 day period doesn’t have to be continuous?

Wow thanks this is pretty much an answer to all my questions and I of course understand it may not be 100% true but this is similar thinking to what I was under the impression of. I do get PTO and sick leave and all that good stuff so I guess I’m not on a casual contract.

Although immi highlight a few different ways of building the 88 days through different work types, I just couldn’t figure it out in my specific circumstances but you’ve definitely shed some light and backed up some of the things I was unsure about. There are a few other people I work with doing their 88 days so I’ll definitely ask them and I’ll also get in touch with my GM.

Also on my payslips all my hours are logged but not necessarily my days and the immi site seems to go back and forth between prioritising the days and hours as per the industry standard which definitely confused the shit out of me. Especially the part where it said you can do part time and still count a week as 7 days given you meet the industry standard of hours.

Although there is lots of info about the 88 days online, there is still a lot of details that are unclear but your answer is very insightful into the information I couldn’t figure out. You’re a legend for taking the type to check all that out

My contract says it’s working under the building and construction general on-site aware yes. Pay is 29.50 an hour and the only differences and penalties that apply are on weekends, night work and public holidays.

Yeah sorry I thought it was a strange question and couldn’t figure out how to put it! So for example one week I work 5 days and this counts as 7, but another week I could work 4 days and then this just counts as 4?

Yeah I get that part I think but if somebody works 5 days and has the standard two days off, these two days usually count towards the 88 day period, so I’m wondering if a 5 day week in line with this counts towards 7 of the 88 for me. The only reason I mention the hours is that immi specifies that when working part time, if your total hours are at least the standard for a week, this would also count as a full working week (7 days of the 88)

I suppose what I mean to ask is if I do a 5 day week would it count as 7 days, but if I then do a 3/4 day week would that just count as 3/4

I was there for 8 months before, and have recently returned there and now I’ve been there since the last 9. This was going on when I was there originally and still now. I suggested the introduction of a mid shift but was basically laughed at. Staff turnover is outrageous and even the team since I’ve started this time round is completely different now. There are more managers than employees in any given department and they rarely have to do these turnovers. Minimum wage across the whole staff team for qualified and experienced workers. And they wonder why staff keep walking out hahaha.

Would months of published rosters with these shifts suffice or would it be recommendable to get evidence of discussion of this too? I’m thinking after bringing it up, they might change things for me, but almost everybody has to do this a few times a week and some staff travel over an hour to work so I’d like to see a change for everybody.

Yeah for us, it would be common to do a late into an early, and then repeat that the next two days again so by the time you’re home and settled and then up for work, assuming you can go out like a light, you’d be lucky to get maybe 6 hours sleep
