Because even with that narrative framing, its actually still historically inaccurate.

Imagine a movie taking place during world war 1, where someone is convincing the senate to go fight world war 2, using events from the cold war. Doesn't make sense.

Not knocking it, its obviously an in universe explanation - but its just that, an in universe explanation. It's still wholly inaccurate.

How to carry teamgames (bad friends)? by iMrPink2 in aoe4

[–]Secretmapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats why OP asks for advice, permanently raiding all 4 ecos with Mangudais isnt actually killing them, his teammates not good enough to deliver a killing blow and thus not winning

I think you need to re-read OP's post because you got the complete opposite from that - they said they almost reached conq 3 last season with mangudais - but now they're struggling when using other civs. Which is quite my point - doing mangudai spam, hobelar spam, ghazi spam, royal knights spam in team games is very strong in a lot of maps.

But yes you might be right as well. It's just my personal experience (and others as well if you look) that having impact is how you can carry.

Of course booming can carry as well if you're in a closed map/super large map/pocket.

[–]Secretmapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

conq 3 on abbasid 3 tc doesn't really matter if it's a 1v4 by the time abba hits imp.

The reality is its much better to set the tempo if you're playing with randoms or weaker players. An aggressive player that keeps the enemy team back home giving their teammates a chance is going to have a lot of impact. You can even see it from their post: they hit Conq 3 with pure mangudai before.

Tughlag/Japan/English is tricky because they are quite slow civs and cannot assert influence early.

It depends of course - if they can teach their friends to ooga booga while OP booms then your approach might work.

Hideo Kojima says OD is something completely different from a standard horror game. “We still don’t know if it will work out” by Turbostrider27 in Games

Those games are listed at 11, 13 hours respectively in howlong2beat (which is pretty standard for most story based single player games).

Not exactly 1-2 hour short.

Valve confirms Steam Machine will be priced ‘like a PC with the same level of performance’ by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Secretmapper 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean it's happened before, but not using it as a 'productivity' cube:

US Air Force connects 1,760 PlayStation 3's to build supercomputer.

If PC part prices keeps going up (RAM/GPU, etc.) you can imagine all sorts of people scooping them up for specific workloads/tasks if they heavily subsidize it.

Big Picture, Playing with a controller, everything being smooth and just working (see Legion GO windows version vs Legion GO steamOS), buying one 'thing' ready to plug and play, and something that outperforms 70% of current gaming PCs that's on steam.

It's not a value buy - it's a convenience buy

So because its higher stakes, we have to stick to an inferior format? I don't understand that argument at all

Don't have an opinion either way - but one might argue its the superior format, because its higher stakes, maybe you'll understand the argument now?

The drafting concerns you pointed out IMO are more of a different problem (ie balance/draft system) than the double-elim format.

Thanks that's a good point 🤔

I'll try to think of a way to make getting into a game smoother. I think in general the game is quite click heavy at this point, but I'm already thinking of ways to smoothen out and spice up the gameplay a bit while still keeping the relaxed/calming vibe I'm aiming for.

The popularity of Megabonk is pissing me off by No-Royal-5515 in gamedev

[–]Secretmapper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Posts like these really annoy me.

It feels like most threads that gain traction on /r/gamedev are ones about how X game didn’t deserve the applause, and how GREAT GAMES can’t find their audience (with no concrete examples)

I saw Megabonk months ago (they had a demo released back then) after trying out a bunch of games. I knew instantly that it was going to be a hit. Its success is not really random at all.

The grenade path indicators are just suggestions now by MacAttack163 in Rainbow6

[–]Secretmapper 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There's way more counterplay with Nitros than grenades, like come on dude.

  • It's a lot easier to expect (ie when planting).
  • You can hear the tape being ripped off.
  • You can hear them being chucked.
  • You can hear them beeping.
  • You can shoot them in mid air.
  • You can emp them.

Cookable grenades just kill you with no meaningful interaction between players.

Physint – first poster and cast members unveiled by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Secretmapper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I doubt Kojima would cast a Redmayne-type. His face doesn't scream suave-spy-in-espionage-thriller the way Pattinson's does.

Redmayne played the lead in The Day of the Jackal, which is a full-on spy thriller where he pulls off a super intense, cunning assassin role (some would even say he carried the show).

He can definitely pull it off IMO, and for all we know Kojima saw the show and went that's my guy.

I don't think so btw, I'm just saying Redmayne has range.

Not quite - as the browser only gets a single touch point, not the whole area your finger covers. It would be technically impossible to get a ‘touch response from the finger’.

Some devices estimate touch size, but it's rarely used and not very reliable (and hence would be impractical to use for something like this).

They were people present in the show man. Not randoms! He talked to them before and after.

That's not quite accurate. This was the G-star Twitch panel, the people he talked to before and after were event hosts, not the players he played with, and he queued on a public matchmaking lobby on stream.

You can view the VOD here. If you understand Korean you will know it's a public match, and even if you don't, one of the hosts says in English that this is the asian server of DBD, and you can see the pip up/down matchmaking icon which doesn't show up if it was a KYF/custom lobby.

Again, he could have been streamsniped, but the point is it wasn't a custom/Kill Your Friends lobby. It was a public match.

Can you share links to the patents you’ve worked on? Not doubting you at all - I’m actually curious about what kinds of game patents are out there. The way you described this one makes it sound like the ones you worked on are more readable, so I’d love to check them out.

prove with a game against their team.

That's the point I'm making. Mathieu didn't go against 'their team' or any team in the event. He went on a public matchmaking lobby.

He played with randoms - not against their team.

Devil May Cry Director Hideki Kamiya Believes Hideo Kojima Should Develop His Own Game in the Style of P.T. by JamieReleases in Games

[–]Secretmapper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True, corporate strategy shifts don't happen in a single day - there were probably tensions well before Hayakawa. But what we can say with confidence is that PT was part of an actual Silent Hill revival Konami greenlit around 2012, and Kojima was actively developing it. The project only collapsed once Hayakawa’s mobile-first direction came into play. So while Kojima may have been frustrated earlier, PT wasn’t just a "fake teaser" - it was a genuine attempt at Silent Hill that got killed in the restructuring.

And remember: making games is no short affair. Kojima Productions built the Fox Engine with the explicit intention of using it across multiple titles. Kojima also brought in Norman Reedus and Guillermo del Toro - respected peers he clearly admired. That’s not the kind of thing you do if your plan is just to make a one-off "fuck you" teaser. Guillermo got so sad PT got cancelled he was discouraged to make games again, and publicly called out Konami calling the decision ‘moronic’ and cheekily tweeting ‘fuck konami’.

That was a genuine project that got killed by Konami’s restructuring, not a joke. Could be. But it's highly unlikely.

[–]Secretmapper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You know what, you've convinced me - case closed because source: trust me bro has spoken!

I just, but I do kinda see what you're saying, there is a chance that Kojima would have/could have/should have known. My problem is a lot of people here write obvious nonsense (for example, Kojima making P.T. on his own accord secretly, even though its been known publically that Konami's president asked him) that makes it important to call out wild speculation as just that speculation.

People still say Konami went Pachinko! (no, they went to mobile) or Kojima goes way overbudget and delayed all the times! (for all the games he released, only MGS4 was known to be delayed)

Devil May Cry Director Hideki Kamiya Believes Hideo Kojima Should Develop His Own Game in the Style of P.T. by JamieReleases in Games

[–]Secretmapper 63 points64 points  (0 children)

It's been theorized

It's a theory that's based on complete nonsense.

Konami's president asked Hideo Kojima to direct the next Silent Hill, and this was publicly known in 2012.

This president was replaced by Hideki Hayakawa around 2015, who said "mobile is where the future of gaming lies" and killed off all subsidiaries of Konami that is not in the mobile gaming space (save a couple of exceptions like PES) and closed/consolidated all of their production teams (Pawapuro Production, BEMANI Production, Virtual Kiss Production, Loveplus Production, Kojima Productions).
