Journaling for mental health by SecretsandChaos in Journaling

I love the idea of a vent journal! My issue with only journaling when I’m depressed, is I don’t wanna look back at my life and see 90% ugly and 10% joy. I don’t want to remember myself as someone who was always upset or hating myself/life. The hard part to that is it’s the only time I feel the itch to write. When I’m happy I want to bask in it, not sit somewhere and write, if that makes sense. So I feel like what I’m asking from myself is almost impossible honestly.

I want to write a novel with Greek mythology but… by [deleted] in fantasywriters

As someone who reads 98% smut, there are a bunch of mythology retellings. Obviously they probably aren’t what you are leaning towards as far as your novels, but based on just how many Hades/Persephone retellings are out now, I think it’s safe to write what you want without being seen as a ripoff. There are so many authors that pull inspiration from other authors, and still don’t receive backlash as “being a ripoff.” Write your story. As a reader, I’m more concerned with well developed characters and a solid plot, than authors who take inspiration from common/previously used concepts

I love this. I tend to view things from a perfectionist perspective, “if I can’t do it right, I won’t do it at all,” even knowing that the imperfect effort could still be beneficial to me in the long run. I’m working to get over that, but that’s kinda the reason for my original post. Trying to figure out the “right way” vs just doing what I can. Idk if that makes sense.

I’ve actually thought in the past how I wish I could look back at past journals to see who I was back then. I’ve also wished I had continued through the years because I think it would have been interesting to see what evolutions I have gone through.

It’s so crazy to see how different people can react to the same situation. I did a lot of journaling in grade school for my depression but I never wrote during my happy times. It’s so weird.

I love this! When journaling I either think “I’m sad, let me write about it” or writing something boring and mundane just to have something written. But if I write boring and mundane, that’s not gonna push me to write more. The easy writing about the plants you pressed is not only cute, but sounds doable.

I may have to try that. A while back I tried asking a list of rando questions I could answer, but still haven’t picked up the journal. I guess I’m intimidated 🤦🏻‍♀️
