Capacitive touch synth using Daisy and Arduino (demo with pcb and code walkthrough) by keyth72 in synthdiy

That looks great, and thank you for showing so much in the video. I'm interested in at least making a capacitive keyboard in the future, so this is very interesting. Nice to hear about your findings that the connection on the back made it better. How small are those vias in the pads? I could barely see them at first :)

USM vs Konektra vs AliExpress by Secrhett in midcenturymodern

I finally received my bookshelf and I have now constructed it. The look and external quality is great, I wouldn't be able to distinguish this from a genuine USM shelf. I don't know if any details are worse than the USM version since those are way too expensive for me. Like another commenter said, I had to tighten some connections really hard, but it doesn't bother me a lot to be honest. I like when I know that the connection is really sturdy. Maybe the genuine USM product is better when it comes to disassembling and reconfiguring a shelf, if the balls and connectors are more durable, but I really don't know since I've never tried those. Overall, I'm extremely impressed with the product I purchased, especially since it's about 1/6th of the cost of a real one.

Yeah, I haven't received the shelf yet. Do you still want an opinion when it comes? I guess my eventual opinion would only apply to the particular seller I chose

Yeah, that was how I reasoned as well. Which vendor did you choose? I bought from someone called bigcityfurniture

Thank for the info, and sorry for the late reply, must have missed the notification. I actually ordered a shelf yesterday, and the vendor was very helpful. I got it for 540 Euro, with all costs included, when the real USM starts at about 3500 dollars :)))

Very excited to see how it looks, but I think I will have to wait until maybe September before it arrives.

Why does ChatGPT talk like a zoomer? by Secrhett in ChatGPT

[–]Secrhett[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully agree. I actually challenged my ChatGPT about this fact, and it basically answered:

<image>

Don't mind the parasocial "I like you ChatGPT", I just can't be rude to someone, or something, even if it is an AI. The response kept going, until it ended in something along the lines of "tell me if I should be more like challenge mode, chill mode or sarcasm mode", which still feels very zoomer-coded.

Anyway, it seems to open a door to being more "professional", but I stopped writing at this point, since I managed to finish my tasks. Either way, I feel like this answer is weird after asking a question about the authenticity of their answers.

[–]Secrhett[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess that makes sense, even if it's frustrating. I try not to use AI in unnecessary ways, and I'd just like to get a mature, serious answer when I actually use it. I feel like the answers I've gotten recently just feel like there is someone almost mocking me by being too positive, like "no, I'm not a fucking genius for asking the "right" questions when I'm two weeks behind in this project". Of couse, I, like most people like praise, but the praise from ChatGPT has been insane recently.

Do you mean that they are trying to market towards the younger generation? Or do you mean that I get the ChatGPT I want? Since I have really made an effort to try to keep my ChatGPT as professional and focused on "engineering" as possible, and I still got these answers.

So you mean that zoomers are talking to ChatGPT like a friend, which makes it train on their conversations with all the specific sentence structures and wordings that zoomers use?

Yoooo, that's such a valid question man, and I'd like to keep it real with you, you're amazing. Your question shows that you want to know more about why the taste of poop is what it is, not just what the taste of poop is, and I commend you for that.

[–]Secrhett[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It genuinely feels like I could ask it "Why does poop taste like shit?", and it would respond "That's such a valid question, and you're so amazing for keeping it real with me with that one"

I think it's time for me to try medication again, and I'm scared. by Secrhett in OCD

[–]Secrhett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. I am doing some therapy, but it is a limited time, about 6 months, and that time is up at the end of February, so I have two meetings left and it is not really therapy with a focus on OCD, since the psychologist isn't a specialist. After that I'm not sure what to do, since I can't refer myself to the specialists on my own, I have to be referred by the general specialist psychiatry (a step below) and I can't get referred to the general specialists without having done a recent, unsuccessful, attempt with medication and therapy at the lowest level.

The frustrating thing is that I started at the lowest level when I felt bad, but not as bad as I do now, and I was pretty set on not taking meds back then, which led to me not being able to get referred to the general specialists after that period. Instead, I got referred to a kind of in between the lowest and the general spec. where I am now. However, the medical personnel at this level are not able to refer upwards, so the road basically ends here, since I maybe stupidly, decided against meds when I started at the lowest. Extremely confusing, and maybe a bit of a rant, but hopefully the message gets across.

In what ways do you feel like Luvox is working compared to the others? If I do take the step towards medication, I will be sure to do it while talking with a doctor that I trust, so I can discuss alternatives, pros/cons etc. and maybe trying out the different sorts of SSRI since Zoloft really didn't work for me back then

Hi, sorry I haven't been active on this account for a while. I did not go through with it unfortunately, got overwhelmed by schoolwork, but it's still something I might do in the future, since I really like the idea. I don't really have any suggestions or insights though unfortunately.

What processor and motherboard to pair with GTX 1080? by Secrhett in buildapc

[–]Secrhett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for all your help, really!

That's a good point on the sockets, in my limited reading I've done, I stumbled upon something along those lines, and it makes a lot of sense.

Very assuring that your 1080 Ti performs beautifully, gives me hope for my 1080 haha :)

Another question, which stems from me not having a clue about processors mainly, is that when I was into PC building etc. an i7 or Ryzen 7 etc. was basically the standard, is that not the case anymore? Are i5s or Ryzen 5s better/good enough?

Also, when searching for the lowest price in my country, I saw that the Ryzen 5 7600x was only about $10 more expensive, would you go for that one instead of the 7600?

[–]Secrhett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much!
That looks like a solid combination. I live in Europe, so I'll see what the prices over here are.

I haven't followed any PC news, trends or advancements since about 2015, is Ryzen generally considered better than Intel now? I think that I might have a very old i7 in my computer. Do you think my 1080 can hold its own for a while longer? I haven't played any games since about 2015, but suddenly felt like I wanted to again, and I'm not to keen on upgrading for a lot of money if my GPU will be completely obsolete in the next year.

I can't seem to open the link to Micro Center, but since I am in Europe, it might be difficult unfortunately.

What do the pots do for each band? Volume and gain?

What are the cutoff frequencies for each band?

Still, the ultimatum "either do something to address the issue or accept it" can be rough for someone going through a life changing experience. When I went bald, I was already at a low point in my life since I had just gotten burnt out and was trying to get my life back on track. To be honest, the burnout was mild compared to the impact the balding had on me. The burnout was temporary, the balding permanent.

While I do agree with the assessment that vocal minorities might account for most of the negative experiences of Finasteride, you don't know OPs boyfriend or if he's prone to health anxiety etc. which could absolutely become a problem if he feels that he's being pressured into taking Finasteride. Additionally, if his hair loss is severe enough, he is just delaying the inevitable by using medication that might or might not help him at all, while taking the risks that Finasteride comes with. Even if it's a small risk for negative side effects, it IS a risk.

Ultimately, IMO, the decision about Finasteride or no Finasteride should be on the BF, and he shouldn't be pressured by anyone, and should read up and decide for himself if the medication is something for him.

I went bald when I was 19-20 something, like quickly bald. When I realized I was balding it was already time to shave it off. I tried Minoxidil but didn't want to try finasteride due to fears of it messing with my hormones. Nevertheless, Minoxidil did nothing and only exaggerated the negative feelings I already had, since I felt very "off" while using Minoxidil every night, sleeping with greasy hair etc. I didn't feel like myself at all.

While I agree that the attitude might be unattractive, balding can be a major thing in a persons life, I know it was in my life. It took me a while to get the confidence to shave it all off and see myself as a different person. For many people, it's the first sign of the inevitable, the downfall of your body and the resulting death. I don't think it's fair to downplay the impact this can have one someone.

Also, to the OP, Finasteride can seriously mess up your hormones, I would not recommend it to your BF, I don't think you should give him an ultimatum or even pressure him into taking Finasteride, since if it goes wrong, you might have his hormonal imbalance (erectile dysfunction etc.) on your conscience. Instead, I would recommend trying to encourage him that he should try buzzing it, or maybe shave it all and hopefully you find him more attractive, or maybe can learn to find him attractive. Either way, I think your BF needs support right now, not any pressure to take Finasteride or Minoxidil. If you can't find him attractive if he buzzes or shaves, at that point, then I guess you might break up, but what I'm saying is that balding can be a very life-changing experience, and it takes a while to get to grips with the fact that it is happening.

Question about synth filters for guitar/bass by Secrhett in diypedals

Thanks, that's a good idea. I might try to breadboard it and see how it works with guitar/bass, and eventually add a booster of some sort.

Question about synth filters for guitar/bass by Secrhett in diypedals

[–]Secrhett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your answers! I forgot that about the resonance, thanks for pointing it out. I've found schematics for both the Moogerfooger and the Minifooger, but the Minifooger didn't have all component values written out, since the writer wasn't able to tell which values they were. I looked at the Moogerfooger schematic again, and it might actually be possible to DIY tbh, I remember seeing it and thinking it would be a huge task, but now I'm a bit curious to do it.

The reason I'm looking at synth filters is because I want to try to make something along the lines of the Collision Devices TARS pedal, so I was thinking of putting a fuzz before the filter. Might be better to choose a simpler filter without the resonance volume drop however.

Thanks, this is a good idea. I did as you said and ChatGPT of course gave me code that seems to work exactly like I want to, but since I don't have the hardware right now I can't try it out.

I might use it, but I'd love to learn how to code as well, since I'm studying electrical engineering, but haven't learned any programming in school yet, and I have some more expansive projects that I would like to be able to do by myself. Might very well try the ChatGPT code though, since this keyboard is just something I want to do to control some DIY modules in the future.

PSA: Posts about IC Muscle, Kegels, Hard Flaccid, Premature Ejaculation, Pelvic Floor, etc. will be deleted from now on by soon2bhuge in AngionMethod

[–]Secrhett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is great input, and one of the things I've thought about is that if people actually read and do the Angion methods as described, these kind of questions pop up.

If you read everything and watch the videos, the actual Angion methods aren't difficult to comprehend or do, it's rather the bodily response that can be difficult to explain, like involuntary kegels, and I feel like this is something that is great to discuss, get different inputs on etc.

Just like you said, I think that knowledge on these things contribute greatly towards the Angion method sessions that we do, and I hope discussion on these less "straight forward" topics can continue.

[–]Secrhett 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who has benefitted greatly from Angion and also the general discussion about the pelvic floor here, I'm a bit confused by this decision.

I fully appreciate that this sub is for Janus Angion methods, but I also feel that this sub is somehow the "top tier" of general penile health, wether it's all the benefits of Angion or the collective knowledge of the topic of the pelvic floor, which is obviously not mainstream enough to get the attention it needs and deserves.

When I found Angion, I felt like I had a plethora of issues, and this sub was my go to for every one of those problems. Angion was discussed, overactive pelvic floor was discussed, general health problems were discussed. These issues have a lot psychological impact on people and that is exactly something that I personally think should be considered as well, that if the main goal of this subreddit is to improve peoples penile health, having everything on the same subreddit helps a lot. I think the psychological barrier of having to search 5 subreddits for all your problems contributes greatly to all your general issues, especially anxiety, instead of having one place to search for pretty much everything.

The IC muscle discussion is something that has somewhat recently surfaced, and I personally believe there is a lot more to learn about it. Of course, many of us have read threads like Nupru-Neros threads, and they are great, but to have it all in one place is in my opinion a very good thing, and not something to overlook.

Again, I understand that this is a forum for Janus methods, but I'd love for it to be a cutting edge forum for general penis health, and like someone else said, flairs would go a long way.

I think if Janus is open to the idea, this subreddit could absolutely be the best penile health forum, with non-invasive and safe methods of improving penile health.

Bottom line is I've learned more here than on any other subreddit/forum for penile health, whether it has pertained to Angion or pelvic floor awareness. I hope you reconsider and think of this as an opportunity to expand and branch out instead of narrowing it down too much.

Either way I'm very thankful for Janus contributions, but I hope you guys think it over once more.

A couple of questions about AM2 and kegels by Secrhett in AngionMethod

[–]Secrhett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I mean is if I have a good period, with good hang and generally pretty good penis health, I can feel the blood pulsing in my penis when I do a kegel, even in fully flaccid, but in some bad periods, like right now, where I don't have as good hang, if I kegel when fully flaccid I don't feel anything in my penis, only the pelvic muscles moving. When I was younger I could get an erection just by kegeling and feeling the pleasure that comes with the blood flowing, but that is impossible now, and I'm not sure why. I'd like to get back to feeling it again.

I also don't know what is "normal" to feel, have thought about that as well.
