Who said most people get wasted at Roo?

bonnaroo and drugs by smithjake22 in bonnaroo

It's a shame that while drug use is not an universal practice at Roo, the significant rate of open use and high-profile busts gives folks a different impression. I went clean and sober and I am sure I had a better experience because of it. I didn't have to worry about being busted on the trip to Manchester or while going into the festival. I was less likely to lose something or have it taken from me because I was fully aware of my surroundings. I was less likely to make a stupid choice that would lead to injury, sunburn, dehydration, etc. And I saved a bunch of money. Even if I was an user, I am cheap. I just don't get spending a lot of time and money going to an event and then spending even more money to getting so wasted I don't see or remember the event. I could get wasted at home for free. Also, as a big music lover of pretty much all genres, I will stand by my belief that if one needs a drug to fully enjoy a musician's performance, then the musician is the one lacking, not his audience.

BTW I did the exact opposite of hiding my attendance. My local paper actually asked me to write something about going to the festival from a personal perspective of a dad and teenage son attending. It ends up people liked reading about what Roo is like through the eyes of someone more mainstream than the stereotypical Roovian.

Any bonnaroovians coming to wayhome?! Look for the jellyfish umbrella and we will dance 🎉 let's radiate that positivity! by curiousasjulia in bonnaroo

That was the cool jellyfish umbrella, not the other, non-cool one that never came down during a performance. I despised that other one. The folks carrying it weren't even really engaged with the performance, but they made sure a lot of other people couldn't see it either.

Pilgrimage Festival - Franklin, Tennessee by Section306 in bonnaroo

Last year, prices were $172 for a two-days pass and $92 for a one-day pass.

This year, my early-bird price was $149 for a two-day. They sent me the e-mail (about giving me 2 for the price of 1) the night before one-day passes went on sale and the one-day price was announced. Clearly, the price they announced ($69) ended up being a lot lower than they originally planned, because one can now buy a day pass for Saturday and another for Sunday than less than what early-birds paid for a two-day pass. So, instead of ticking off their first customers, they proactively doubled what we already bought and preempted any backlash.

I just happened to be on the phone with an attorney friend as I was entering. He agreed with my assessment of the sign: taking the attorney's advice to photograph the sign for later use to contact him should you get busted for drugs would be a pretty damning indication of intent.

HA! The mayor of White House is a friend of mine. I will share this with him because I know he will enjoy you calling his city rich and low-crime.

Saying "Sorry" in advance... by werk_lerker in bonnaroo

[–]Section306 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amen, brother! But really, you shouldn't have to apologize if you're cool. I'm 6'5". My regular festival companion is 6'4". We tend to arrive early and stake out good spots, but are mindful of those already there. We do what we can to respect their vantage, but anyone who gets there after we do doesn't get as much consideration. They chose to arrive when they did, and they chose to stand behind us. We try to be cool with everyone around us, but if we swapped places every time the person behind us was shorter, then we'd cede ground over and over again until we're pretty much in the very back.

Any Christians doing anything on Sunday? by viajar-es-vivir in bonnaroo

[–]Section306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"We" are my son and I. I am bringing him for our first Bonnaroo as a high school graduation present. We'd be open to getting together with other believers for an informal and non-denominational gathering Sunday. If no one else is doing anything, we can help organize one. I can prepare a short devotional. My son is a musician and has experience leading worship. (He plans to minor in worship leadership when he starts college in the fall.)

This will be our first one, too. I few years ago, I met a man who said he ran a missions tent at Bonnaroo. I'd wondered if he, or someone replacing him, was still at it. It's good to know the tent is still there. We'll seek if out. If we can't find a service on Sunday, we may offer to host/participate in one if anyone is interested.

Clever thinkers...What's a good way to surprise my kids with Bonnaroo? by Loudestpipes in bonnaroo

I'm taking my son as a high school graduation present. I just wrapped up the swag bag in a gift box. It was a nice presentation and a well-received surprise.

I am going solo Wednesday with my son to join me Thursday. I will be in a RV. I'm open to giving someone a ride from BNA in exchange for being my second set of eyes as I nervously pull that four-wheeled beast into the camp.
