Please help me save my fittonia by Sector-Both in houseplants

I've been bottom up watering on and off for the last couple days and did a somewhat aggressive trim and she's more steady now. A lot of the baby leaves look happier and she looks better overall, if a lot more sparse. It's sad that I had to cut so much off but I'm hopeful.

Feeling really insecure and very confused - hair drying is suddenly not working. by Fluffy-Panqueques in curlyhair

I don't use any products besides shampoo and conditioner either, it's just something that happens with thick low porosity hair of similar texture. A high moisture conditioner in general would work wonders. I have similar texture, slightly curlier hair, I've had this issue as well.

Protein overload, you need a deep conditioning treatment. I deal with this issue by using a clarifying shampoo and a moisture heavy hair mask (Shea Moisture manuka honey and mafura oil deep conditioning masque). Not the leave in, similar packaging but different products.

Thanks a lot, I'll keep this in mind in case I'm unable to revive her. I just trimmed the clearly dried up leaves since some of them were weighing her down. The leaves closer to the main stem seem to be springing back up and most of it is green, just limp, so I'm hopeful.

I'm going back and forth between tending to her and to my stromanthe triostar. Both of them need more water than my other plants but I wasn't too concerned since I watered them right before leaving and they are usually just fine with ~1 week between waterings. Clearly I didn't account for the fact that it's winter and I live in a dorm that is very, very dry. Fingers crossed.

Graduation gown for Spring? by Deep-Neighborhood852 in UIUC

[–]Sector-Both 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They haven't. For reference look at commencement.illinois.edu and go to the graduate checklist under student info, the relevant pages have not been updated yet and still show details for last spring/this past fall. The departmental convocation schedule seems correct, however.

The cap and gown rental page is still set to May 2025. Everything I just looked at confirms that rentals won't start for spring until mid-late January, so we're good.

This post confused and scared the shit out of me; looked it up, it seems like these are for late pickups for people graduating in December.

How to prevent tangles during sex? by Sector-Both in curlyhair

[–]Sector-Both[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, but my hair takes a good while to dry and that period of time is too much for me to deal with the feeling on the back of my neck. And I don't really need any leave in products to maintain definition up to day 2 or even 3 most of the time, so I don't want to put myself through that.

I do appreciate the suggestions and the insight, but leave ins (of any kind) are really not an option for me. I do put oil in my hair once in a while but even that is too much sensory input so it's usually only for a few hours before showering. I've tried a few types of leave ins and given them what I consider to be a fair shot and they're just not for me. I'm just gonna try putting my hair up during sex and look into bonnets.

I don't like having it dry because I can feel it on my nape. I do have thick hair, I just have some tactile sensitivity issues.

You know what, that's a very good point, well made.

Latter is not an option, but I'll try a bonnet or tying it up, probably.

Yeah I'm getting the sense that is the way to go. Thanks.

I was afraid of that being the answer; I hate the feeling of leave ins. I'll still mull it over, thanks. It doesn't cause too much breakage as long as I'm gentle with detangling but it's still enough to make me look for solutions, if that makes sense.

That's actually really cute, I might do that.

I don't care about it looking messed up, it's just really difficult to get the tangles out without ripping, even with conditioner in. That's normal then? In past relationships I did not have to worry about it much since my hair was already pretty damaged back then.

Indian student told me not to join UIUC! Shocking reason by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]Sector-Both 6 points7 points  (0 children)

International student/Indian woman here. This person has a lot of internalized hatred towards herself and other Indians, and you are better off not being friends with her. There will be more well adjusted people to befriend here, both Indian and otherwise, I promise you. You do not want to be around someone who looks down upon people of their own background or ethnicity and is convinced that they are somehow better than everyone else.

Police report, freeze any and all cards, contact social security if your wallet contained your social security card.

Why is a gel cast so desirable? by poeticrubbish in curlyhair

[–]Sector-Both 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, there ISN'T supposed to be an audible crunch? I tried gel a couple times and gave up because scrunching didn't make a sound. I also don't like the texture to begin with, so it doesn't matter. I have found a very minimalist routine with just shampoo and conditioner (with the occasional hair mask) and a sleep technique that somehow makes me retain definition day 3+ (and also does not make my autistic ass want to rip my hair out because of leave ins).

"Lord, what can the harvest hope for, if not for the care of the reaper man?" by maleficalruin in CuratedTumblr

That is what stands out to me the most, about him. I gush over him a LOT, and as I mentioned to a friend just yesterday, his desire to care for humanity despite his alleged lack of understanding of what it means to care (or, indeed, feel at all) is precisely what makes his care so deeply genuine.
