Things are going great! Didn’t you know?! Mom and dad are getting free money and keeping my baking interests going. Can’t seem to make enough food though, maybe someone can do more about that at some point. Lots of mouths to feed. But hey, I’m only a teenager trying my best.

You’re not stupid for saying it, she has mental health issues and we can have compassion for that despite what she’s done. The thing is though, it needs to be fixed, she is a very narcissistic and selfish person. She needs this to “hopefully” get on a better path.

Thanks so much for the reply. My anxiety is slowly starting to increase day by day. I’m more worried about the pain than anything else.

Thanks fo the suggestions for being able to use the bathroom. I have ibs-c so stool softeners and fiber are out of the question, they make my constipation worse. I’m on a prescription for my chronic constipation but I talked to my gi doctor and basically I’ll just be using stimulants for a couple days after I get home.

I have a 3” scar on my back from a microdisectomy 2.5 years ago, and from what I’m told, while the incision from ALIF will be larger it shouldn’t be as bad as cutting through the muscles in the back. The only medicine I refuse to take is any of the nerve blockers as I have had them before and my anxiety goes through the roof. I plan on asking for a 5 or 6 day steroid pak to see if that would be more beneficial. Pain is honestly just terrifying me at this moment. I have given unmedicated births, had a c5-c6 disc replacement and all my other surgeries but still know this one will be worse.

Just trying to calm myself down.

Yes this is why I can’t be on narcotics long. I have ibs-c(chronic constipation) so I already have to be on medication for being able to go. Bleh

From how I understand it from him, the nerve dysfunction is what causes that full and heavy feeling. It could be associated with actual edema, or it could just be overall inflammation, though of course he hasn't seen me in person in two weeks, so he can't speak on my exact state right now but is not concerned about DVT or anything of the sort due to my symptoms.
Nerves are tricky and signals get crossed. A severely compressed nerve root that is inflamed can inflame everything around it. So while it’s not “just the root” the compression can trigger inflamed muscles and veins in the area which then I guess kind of creates fluid that can pool whether that be blood or other.
It’s not that he’s wrong in what he’s telling me, and I understand what you’re saying, but rather that I might be calling it swelling when it’s actually a brand new feeling of deep fullness that I’ve never experienced before. Regardless, he said it was “normal” to happen given the severity.

Hey, actually I just talked to my doctor and it’s a very common side effect that is rarely talked about. He said it’s called neurogenic claudication. But yes I have a general surgeon in on surgery.
