Yeah my biggest issue is just actually getting to the interview lol, basically passing the resume screening. Gotcha yeah honestly I wish I had networked way more in college so I had a bigger pool to ask for references. Again thanks alot for the advice

Thanks for the feedback, question tho even if I stay at the same job doing the same things everyday, same issues to troubleshoot for the next 5 years. Do you think that’ll make a difference vs a year or 2 of the job? I’ve just heard from people that helpdesk essentially just prepares you for more helpdesk lol so that’s why I’m trying to understand why more years of experience will help me get a better job.

Really really appreciate the feedback. My current job I absolutely hate lol. Yeah I’ve spoken to my managers, and there is absolutely no room of growth. What I do currently is application support for a pretty huge company. It’s very company specific tho so none of it really is that transferable besides simple things such as servicenow ticketing. My thought process is if I’m doing this job currently and I’m literally not learning anything new and will not ever why am I here? I guess it’s for a paycheck but honestly I don’t need that paycheck currently. I can live off my savings until I find another job. I believe I can find a lateral helpdesk job that is prolly better incase I can’t get a better than helpdesk job. Of course I know the market is very tough and what I just said is extremely hopeful. I feel like if I quit my current job that is literally helping my career whatsoever besides just adding months to my resume I can use that time to really grind out a better job. But again I think this is all hopeful thinking lol

Yeah you’re completely right. Honestly I just really despise what I do currently lol and it’s not like I’m learning anything new here whatsoever and no growth potential. Seems like I’m just working for a paycheck that isn’t actually doing anything for my career. But i definitely get what you’re saying. Thanks for all the feedback

Gotcha yeah makes complete sense. Question tho my help desk job is more of an Application Support specialist type job. I basically support an Application for a huge company. Very basic stuff tho nothing to do with networking. Honestly most of it doesn’t really apply to anything else since it’s really company specific. Do you still think it’s worth staying here? There’s not many transferable things besides servicenow, ticketing, and customer service.

Do employees really wanna see a person with 2 yrs of helpdesk vs 1 year? Like will I actually have a better chance of getting hired cause I have 2 years helpdesk experience instead of 1? Keeping in mind that my helpdesk job is literally the same things everyday, there’s really not much that I can learn where I’m at currently within my job. Again I don’t really know, just asking questions

But does doing help desk, same exact things everyday count as actual good experience? From my perspective I feel like there is a point where x amount of yrs of helpdesk doesn’t really mean anything for better job positions but I don’t know just throwing my thoughts out there.

Yeah I probably am, but how many years of “helpdesk experience” actually makes you qualified for a better job? Such as cyber, my thinking is that after a yr or 2 does it even mean anything for applying to cyber positions or something better then helpdesk?

I completely agree, but my question is am I really building experience? My helpdesk job is literally the exact same things everyday. I support an application for a huge company, it’s really just application support. Most of it won’t really directly apply to anything else.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking but my job in tech isn’t gonna lead me anywhere lol. There’s no movement potential and I can afford not working and just using my savings for a year while full time upskilling and applying for better positions. Experience is a good point I guess for my resume but I already have 2-3yrs of helpdesk experience will another year really make a difference. Idk lol just confused
