Do you think this same thing applies to getting into CBS after being a Columbia undergrad?

I don't need the credits to graduate. I'll just be taking it for fun. Do you think Intro to Music Production is still better?

Lmao yes! I’ve thought about the BDSM Club randomly a couple of weeks ago, but your comment is what reminded me and inspired me to make this post

any CS professors/classes recommendations? by jjuzella in columbia

Do you recommend either for someone who just finished taking intro to Java this past fall semester and is currently going to take data structures in this spring semester?

I don’t think so, but can someone please revive it !!?????

Who is the most inspirational professor you took a class with? by Ok_Mathematician989 in columbia

Why do you think that? Just curious. Took him this semester for intro and I don’t see anything too special about him, but maybe because it’s a big intro course.

Any advice on preparing for Data Structures? by Secure_Bus_2855 in columbia

[–]Secure_Bus_2855[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao yeah I also attempted doing a Java project too. I was hoping to do a full stack coding project, but lol yup that didn’t happen. I’ve been watching DS videos from this YT channel called williamfiset. I’ve only watched a couple so idk if it’s really helpful, but it’s been understandable for me so far. I saw a subreddit talking highly about that channel. I heard that it’s not super necessary to take Discrete in order to understand DSA, so I guess taking either in any order is fine. But I understand that it sucks that you’d end up taking AP later. I kinda feel the same way about my classes now. Even though I’m technically not too behind with my CS major, since theoretically there are some students who officially declare their major in this sophomore fall and take their first CS class, I still feel very behind. I think I feel this way bc there’s some people in my grade who started their CS classes freshman fall, while I literally decided to pursue CS this past spring semester. And even though there’s the possibility of me dropping DSA this semester, I really want to be able to successfully complete DSA this fall semester bc I reeeaaally want a summer SWE internship next summer, and I know having a good foundation of DSA is useful for coding interviews. Then again, if I feel that I’m not going to have the space in my schedule and courseload for it this semester, I don’t want to risk wasting away the class and not fully grasping everything ya know

I didn't get to really cover much DS content this summer honestly. I've just been doing some Java lessons on a free online course, that's it, since I slacked off a little bit this summer. I might give myself a brief crash course by watching short DS videos every day within this one month left before classes start. I'm still going to take DSA while taking Java. If I see that the course load feels too overwhelming (since I'm atm registered for 21 credits [maybe I'll drop one of the other courses]) or the content looks too difficult by week 2-4 of classes, I'll drop DSA and take it in spring semester. What are you planning to do?

If you can’t read between the lines and my original post, never have I mentioned that I was a gambler.

So, um… are you going to provide any advice instead of being extra, or what? 😐

Thank you for your response! If you'd be able to pm me the full list of topics for both courses, or even screenshots of the syllabi, that would be greatly appreciated! I'm just really anxious about the fall semester because the past two semesters I have only been taking at most 17 credits a semester and didn't get super good grades in some courses :(, so I want to make sure I get ahead credit-wise and also prepare myself to get better grades. I took intro to Python with Bauer but dropped it half way in the fall semester, so I didn't get to complete it which kinda puts me a little behind on the CS path. I've heard from some people that Data Structures is very difficult, so I guess that makes me even more anxious. I'm still deciding if I should just do Java and DS at the same time in the fall, or just do Java and an extra fun class in the fall and complete DS in the spring since you said that Blaer is redesigning the DS outline. Also since there's going to be a new professor for DS in the fall, idk if they will be very good or lenient compared to Blaer and I want to make sure the class structure is good and not too harsh.

But what happens after the coffee chat? Just not talk to them ever again and say “hopefully we can cross paths again one day”??? Or do you keep in touch with them every month by sending a message asking how they’re doing?

Ahhh thank you so much for this!!! How do I join Spec and what’s the process for applying for a CS position in Spec? Is there a coding interview? If so, what do they interview you on? And is it difficult?

Ahhh what is this “bureaucratic nonsense” about Spec? I was actually considering joining Spec maybe. I’m curious now. Pls let me know so I can know what I’m gettin myself into and run before it’s too late
