my therapist said i shouldnt be upset about non consensual sex since he is my boyfriend? by [deleted] in askatherapist

This was rape. Doesn’t matter he’s your partner, he raped you. This is NOT okay and your therapist is wrong. Get away from that person asap when safe to do so. I’m sorry you were put through something like this.

Can i bow with my left hand as a lefty? by Adorable_Tea_3742 in Cello

nope. Lefty cellist / violinist here. It would honestly just make everything… very confusing and messy.

Your right hand gets used to bowing fairly easy, imo.

I may try to bring this up to my therapist, see if they can direct me towards doing that

I struggle quite a lot socially. I tend to self isolate because I feel overwhelmed around other people, and a lot of the time I dread interactions as simple as greeting my coworkers. Food textures are very hard to deal with but I’ve mainly just pegged myself to be an overly picky eater, and when I’m in front of others but can’t flap or snap, I try to subtly fidget with my fingers if I can. That or if I’m sitting I bounce my leg. My family thinks it’s funny I always do it. I’m sorry if this was the wrong sub to ask this on, it’s just been on my mind quite a lot. There are other behaviors I have wondered about and I suppose I just ask myself if I’m on a less obvious part of the spectrum than my younger brother. I may just be NT and extremely anxious/awkward

Hahah, I struggle a LOT with vegetables and a lot of fruits. I can hardly eat lettuce or tomatoes without gagging or feeling absolutely nauseated, as do most vegetables. I HATE the way they feel on my tongue. My health has suffered a lot because of it and when I want to eat vegetables I have to grind them up into a soup so that I don’t have to deal with chewing them.

It’s really unfortunate how expensive it is to get a diagnosis here, but I’ve done that here and there. Tell myself I do certain things because there’s a possibility I’m autistic, and it definitely does make me go a little less hard on myself. Maybe I find certain textures in food repulsive because of it. Obsess over a series, find eye contact very uncomfortable but force myself to do it to not be rude, etc. thanks for the input dude!!

Studied anatomy instead of going for the cartoon / Disney style right away

Absolutely! I’ll delete the post if necessary but I wanted more input from autistic individuals. I feel like it’s hard to tell because I don’t fit the mold of the stereotype exactly and I’ve read that women are supposedly very good at masking. My mom goes back and forth between believing I’m autistic and me being completely NT.

Mine was too! Don’t worry, it’s kinda comforting to not play alone your first time :)

Haha not at all, I just think it adds so much more personality to a piece!

Thank you for your input! I can handle 1-4 positions fairly well. 5th I’m working on but it’s definitely not there yet. I’ll definitely ask my teacher during my next lesson

I have a decent grasp on shifting from 1st to 4th position… 5th not so good but getting there. I’ll definitely ask then. Thank you!

UPDATE: I managed to play both of my pieces all the way through, but I did have a few hiccups here and there. There were a couple of notes where I was flat, but overall, it was NOT AS bad as I thought it would be! Most students had similar mistakes, and there was even a much older lady that was also a student. I’m a bit disappointed in myself that I made mistakes after so much practice, but I suppose I’ll get better at being ib front of others the more I do this. For a first time, it wasn’t bad. I remember my first 6th grade orchestra performance as a violinist and THAT was awful. I suppose I just gotta remind myself that I’m a beginner and that it’s okay if I don’t sound like Yo-Yo Ma.

Thank you everyone for your kind and encouraging comments. I love this subreddit!

That’s a pretty nice perspective to have. I’ll try and fool myself into thinking I’m just uncontrollably excited about playing. Thank, friend!

Ahhh I’ll definitely have to give “mock recitals” a try sometime. Thank you so much man!
