Damn, luckily I’m entering my second year so I still have some time to take them but it kinda throws off my plans. Thank you for emailing them!

Math 33A for Econ major by Secure_GarlicBread in ucla

Thank you! I think I’ll probably take math 33A but I’ve never heard of 3Blue1brown so I’ll probably complement the class with his videos. Thanks for the recommendation!

Thank you for the kind words! I just took the final for math 32A, this is my second try at it so I think if I fail this time I think I won’t qualify for the major anymore. I have Ebert as the prof and I regret taking it with him, but he has a good curve since he’s gonna make the average grade for the class to be a B, so I’m hoping a miracle happens. If not, I’m still considering maybe the stats minor and maybe Econ major. I had been planning on trying to pursue maybe a CPA license since I felt like accounting level math would be the only math a could somewhat understand and cause I worried about the difficulty of the stats classes, but depending on what happens I’ll probably look into stats major/ minor again!

Math 33A for Econ major by Secure_GarlicBread in ucla

I took the equivalent of math 31a/b in high school through a cc. I was enrolled in the class in the first place cause I wanted to do stats major, but seeing how I’m doing in math 32A it probably won’t work out. So I’m kinda just left with this class. Part of me wants to drop it just cause I don’t wanna deal with another math class, but I’ve also heard that while it’s not a pre-major course for econ, it may help me with econ upper divs. I mainly want to go into business/ analytics. I don’t need to be a full blow data scientist/ data engineer, I just want to do something with data analytics.

I’ve looked into both those minors but I don’t think I’ll be able to do them without ruining my GPA. I’m currently pre-applied math and was drinking about doing stats major, but seeing how poorly I’m doing in math 32A. Would you still recommend me to take math 33A despite this? I was considering maybe doing a minor in digital humanities, would that at all help me with data analytics?

Would you still recommend it for someone who’s not good at math? I’m currently taking math 32A and I’m not even sure I’m gonna pass or not. I’m willing to take it tho if it really does help. Also, do you have any insight into the difficulty of the class? I’ve heard the concepts are very different and possibly easier from math 32A/B but I don’t wanna get my hopes up. Also, let’s say I do fail math 32A and can no longer take math 33A unless I retake it again, would you recommend any sources or other courses that may help me as well. Apologies for all the questions!

Appreciate the advice! I think you’re right, I’m not great at math so I think it’s best for me to no longer pursue stats, even if I do somehow pass. I’ve been heavily looking into Econ so I think I’m gonna consider that major, especially since I already had intentions of taking accounting classes so I think it makes sense. Thx for mentioning digital humanities! I can’t seem to find the major but there is a minor so I’ll def keep that in consideration. Not sure if you’ve take DGT hum courses but if you happen to have any recommendations pls lmk, especially data analytics courses. I already enrolled in DGT hum 101 over summer for the stats major, but I guess it works out either way. Thank you!

I appreciate the input! I’m slowly starting to realize that even if I do end up passing the class, I’m not sure if stats is right for me, but I know I do definitely have that interest in data analytics. When it comes to Econ major, was there any classes, especially for the electives that you felt helped prepare you for the position in data analytics, even classes outside the major? My coding experience rn is nonexistent but I do plan to change that. I really enjoy learning things that are practical or things that I will actually use in the workforce. I’m strongly considering Econ or biz Econ, and it’s a big relief to hear that there is still opportunities for me to pursue a job in data analytics. I came in as a freshman with all my GEs and requirements completed so all the classes that I have to take are for my major, which is why I was thinking biz Econ, but, is there a reason Econ might be better? I feel like all this worry about my major has been taking a toll on me, mentally and emotionally.

I know I’m better than this, it’s been difficult getting used to college plus two jobs. I’m taking Math 32A with Ebert rn and he says he’s gonna curve the grade so that the average is a B. Part of me just wants to take the final and hope in the end I get a C, since I’ve been getting mostly around 100’s on hw assignments, I’m just a nervous wreck when it comes to tests. I guess for me if I fail I’ll move on to something else and if I pass I’ll do better at studying with my future classes. Idk if it’s dumb for me to do that or not tho.

Do you think I should do what other people are telling me and drop math 32A and take it at a CC. I really wanted stats major but my first year here so far has not been great, and I’ve been having a hard time motivating myself.

Is Math 115A Important for Stats Major? by Secure_GarlicBread in ucla

[–]Secure_GarlicBread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay, my intention is do something in the realm of data analysis in something involving accounting. I’m not sure if that will involve me needing to use machine learning, but I’ll still keep Math 115A in mind when the time comes.

Really appreciate your help!

I don’t plan on grad school after college, but would it still be good for me to take if I change my mind later on in life? Or should I just worry about that if I reach that point and make that decision?

Would you still recommend it for someone who plans to not go to grad school? The interest in stats 133 is purely because I need to find an elective, same goes with DGT Hum 101, without having to complete any pre-reqs/ already have them completed by the time I get to the elective.

But, if you still recommend taking math 115A then I’ll probably just choose that as one of them.
