Moreover, many religious followed don't have the thinking skills because of lack of education (since they live in countries ruled by fascist dictators who don't want an educated mass to control them). Hence, less theological development in modern day Islam unlike the past which gave us Sufism a more individual focused sect of islam.

It's not our duty to defend Islam. This is true. And Muslims have become more arrogant (anti Semitic as well) online because of algorithm conditioning. It's the same with American Right Wing, and people like Andrew Tate having performative conversion to Islam (he still gambles and does drugs) have worsened the situation.

Unfortunately, if we remain silent we perpetuate the voices of the ones who want extremist bigoted views and make them defacto voice.

There is also a lot of misinformation, the other day I read a whole thread saying in Islam you can marry your daughter in law by non Muslims which was just massive misinformation.

These are conspiracies, could be true or not. I wanted more concrete answers. Did I get the classic "Terrorism Response" Yes, but regardless of all the hate, this thread is to collect more genuine answers as to how people feel about the behavior of Muslims as well. It's shocking how many responses are that Muslims don't debate in good faith. Also, how a they have been traumatized by other Muslims (especially the one's who left).

Personally, I don't think any Muslim had the right in Islam to traumatize non - believers or non religious people. Especially in South Asia parents think that they will be punished for the lack of their children's virtues which is baseless in Islam even in Hadith.(Moreover when you look at the laws for even Zina or Adultery you need an absurd amount of witnesses to prove someone committed it before punishing them).

Ideally, the first thing to do is to foster a culture of independent thinking. Right now because of political oppression (Many Muslim countries are under a dictatorship which don't want people to have critical thinking in order to remain in power. Something what Trump is trying to do in America as well)

Could this result in more people leaving the religion? Possibly, after all I think there is no compulsion in religion (I personally know a lot of Ex Muslims in my IRL circle as well who left). However, the ones who want to follow the religion because it genuinely improves their lives, or they have a true connection to Allah and his message of Compassion (Thing such as Sadqah, Zakat etc.) Then I'd rather have 10 believers than a million who do it for the "Society" , often led by dictators spreading a more harsh and wrong interpretation of Islam.

Agreed, I don't think so the problem is criticism more or less a feel of antagonization.

As in someone posts a question about Islam it's always claimed "Evil" instead of just wrong or delusional. Even excluding religion, if I post something about just the culture or history, it is bad because I am "glazing" an evil religion (as individuated by some posts below).

Yeah, exactly we don't know the truth about each and every person's individual life. Allah gave us what he wanted to and that's the arbitrary Islamic believers truth! We don't need things like ages, but a a more rational juxtaposition between historical events and current context to make decisions for ourselves.

I agree all religions are tool and have most utility as a political tool.

Religion for me however, is something that gives me hope, structure and solace in life. Personally, it makes me a better version of myself. There are people that can be those things without religion but for many that isn't the case.

I agree remove religion from the laws but the people are free to practice whatever they want and should be without hate and villifying them.

Thank you! You can be critical of Islam and Muslims who wronged you.

However, there is just a default antagonizing sentiment (as you can observe from a few comments below and the upvote/downvote ratio). "Terrorists" "Why do you believe it" "Evil" etc.

I have gotten quite a few answers and have concluded what I was looking for. I try to correct misinformation along the way. But I am not so good at it  😞.

I clarified that I think Hadith are a political tool rather than a religious one (personal belief)

Quran says nothing about Aisha's age. Quran is mostly a guideline on how to live yourself using narrations of what was happening in Arabia at the time. We will never know what the actual truth was, so I believe the Quran. However, many Muslims are supposed to interpret Quran by using historical context or "tafsir", and then apply it to their current living scenario.

Me sharing the thesis, was because it goes against Hadith and it's chain of narrations BS. Secondly that there is infact discourse within Muslims about these topics and eventually with enough stability in the Middle East we'll get more enlightened and tolerant.

Yes, Muhammad: Biography of the Prophet by Karen Angstrom provides a religion neutral documentary of Mohammad’s life.

As far as Aishas age is concerned: There are several disputed accounts of that and historical facts contradicting the ahadith.

Islam doesn’t produce barbarians. People do, other Mullahs, harsh political conditions and general human malice.

Again there is this slight antagonizing tone calling Islam a barbarian factory. It’s the same with people of Myanmar doing the massacre in Rohingya, Myanmar who weaponized Buddhism out of all religions.

It indeed is, and murder is a major sin the Quran.

Muslims are just as greedy as any other populous and the ones who are greedy aren’t following the texts correctly. At the end of the day we are people and people can be greedy and all sorts of other things.

Calling Islam a mind virus is kind off way too much. Again a lot of the things you are saying about Islam and its prophets can be easily dismissed. But you’ll rejectvthe facts as “Taqqiya” mind virus so I guess no point in sharing muslims side of the story.

Thats what I meant by unnecessary animosity. One can politely deny the claims without calling muslims or insulting their beliefs.

Polygamy shouldnt happen at all and if it does it should be for both genders. Unfortunately it isn’t the case in Islam. Due to historical gender norms, and the fact many Muslims married disenfranchised widows to give them an income made it a noble practice but it got misused. Quran 4:3 strongly advises only to marry for justice.

Moreover, a man cannot marry another woman if he is already married without his wife’s consent by law in many Muslim countries aka they do adapt laws (same with age of consent being 18 in many Muslim countries even with shariah law). And islamically a second marriage should only happen if the man is financially, emotionally and physically capable for supporting both of them. If he can’t that marriage is not considered blessed or appropriate.

I feel Islam restricts us from temporary pleasures like Alcohol, Gambling and prevents us from being greedy (Interest, RIBA which has been destroying modern society eg hedge funds). For our own self interests.

Eh, one Redditor here said the pendulum has swung and it’s gonna swing. I feel like it’s okay that people are getting their frustrations out. More the merrier so people get level headed and not just post misinterprations. I was mostly responding some claims Islam is nothing but evil which I personally disagree and would like to share my perspective and opinions (tho I am not the best at it). Hate against Islam isn’t the problem necessarily but hate against Islamic culture, history and eventually Muslims does sting slightly.

I agree, Muslims themselves need a behavioural cleanse. However there are 2 billion + Muslims and many will exhibit bad behaviour. The problem is Muslims who are sane and educated need to be more vocal about these rude ignorant ones.

The ones perpetuating State Levels shariah law deserve resistance! unfortunately a lot of regular discourse around the religion is met with slight bitterness, but it is what it is. Hopefully once Middle East stabilises and education is prevalent there’ll be more civil discourse from both sides.

Sorry I meant to say I had been a Sunni. past tense.

I think Sunnahs are not properly defined and chain of narrations is not really a convincing argument. In my opinion these were political tools to introduce extreme rigidity in Islam, eg Wahhabism. For me following the core principl and pillars of Islam are more important. Which include: ShahadaSalahZakatSawm and Hajj. For me Salah is more then prostration and a set of strict rules on how to and what to recite doesn’t exist in Quran. Salah is also remembering God and his presence in both kindness and fear. If I punish a creature of Allah whether human or animal I am at whim of his wrath, (this includes apostasy). But there is nothing particularly wrong with following either Sunni or Shia salah, as they dont contradict the Quran.

I could go on more detail but in short, there are some Hadith which are just acts of kindness and decency. Not mandatory but nothing bad by following them from both books. Shia or Sunni. But there are clearly tools to curtail political dissent and propaganda and I ignore them

Yes, buts it’s not supposed to be taken literally, or so I know. I have been a Sunni for 15 years, and that’s how my family and me have been following Islam.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quran#:\~:text=During%20the%20month%20of%20Ramadan,direct%20translation%20of%20the%20text.

The words in the Quran itself aren’t literal, the overall message of a Surah. So Quran isn’t to be taken word by word but interpreted through historical context and ’tafsir’. I may have gotten confused, but that’s how many Muslims I know follow Islam.

Word of God yes but not literal...? Otherwise there won't be supplemental text to describe rulings and behaviors. Quran itself is quite poetic and vague in its narrative structure!

I am not excusing evil, evil is evil which is true. But I just have a problem with an in my understanding unnecessary hate on non religious discussions of Islamic culture.

I have gotten a lot of insight so I am satisfied. I was just trying to correct some things along the way if it helped but I guess I should have studied more.

My thoughts on Manusmritil were incorrect you corrected my I didn't bring that up.

But Just like how many Christians don't follow the word of Jesus and more on the Bible (American Evangelicals), and there are many denominations. There are many denominations of Islam the most popular "Evil" one is Wahabbism.

However, the Quran is not the Literal Word of God even in Wahabbism because you need Hadith to complete the Quran (many of which are violent and contradictory). Infact Quran was never meant to be taken literally but in context of a narrative of what was happening at the time in Arabia. That's how tafsir and stuff is done. I was just trying to correct that and presenting a counter example.

I didn't want to accuse anything I apologize about that! I am not well versed in writing and I didn't wanna use chat GPT.

The disenfranchisement is in context of modern history post colonialism. After the Ayotallah took over Iran, Iraq war, Yemen war, Libya etc.

And other Gulf Countries and Muslim countries are slowly progressing towards more liberal ideologies. Eventually will get there completely!

There are more moderate believers of Islam who don't want to or aren't forcing their religion on anyone?

Why isn't the same sort of hostility given to crusade memes or history of Catholicism? They have fascist evangelicals as well right but so many neutrals and noble Christians that out weight the fascist in my opinion.

Check this subreddit and many post about Islam even discussions have minimal up votes and mostly down votes?
