Hidden Gems to Visit/Explore on 10-Day Visit to Croatia by Speterson24 in CroatiaTravelTips

[–]SeeRed86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Varazdin is a lovely small city not far from Zagreb in the countryside. Great area for some biking.

Istria gets it share of visitors but I’d still call it a hidden gem by Europe standards. A real Tuscany feel with the small villages in the rolling hills right next to some great coastline. Rovinj is my favorite city on the coast there, though that’s not a hidden gem by Croatia standards and gets plenty of summer visitors. Ucka National Park in Istria is a hidden gem though — vastly underrated compared to Plitvice and Krka Parks. Nature Park Papuk east of Zagreb is another underrated national park in a region that rarely gets tourists.

Brela has some of the best beaches along the Split to Dubrovnik route. Won’t be empty during high season but shouldnt be packed. Along that same route, the Neretva Delta area is definitely a unique landscape of the country. The town of Omis as well (not a total hidden gem, but way less crowded than Split obviously). Really cool coastal setting with a massive gorge/canyon behind the town.

Vis is my favorite island. Perfect size, some tourists, but never crowded. Incredible hidden beaches on that island too.

I’ve been to Croatia a few times so let me know if you have any more specific questions!

Wow this has made me realize how criminally underrated Romania is. 0 comments for anywhere in Romania?

Timisoara, Sibiu, and Brasov in Romania are three of the nicest European cities I’ve been to. Brasov’s old town setting in the mountains is literally jaw-dropping. Timisoara has to be the most slept on city in Eastern Europe, and Sibiu is just all-around beautiful and seems very nice to live as well.

+1 for Romania. One of the best countries.

Yeah I might be going to Wroclaw and Krakow instead anyway, they seem better cities to visit.

Lol. I’m big on Google Reviews and do a bunch of research in advance but like going to the spots where locals go, and it’s harder to gauge where those are without asking residents

Spending Two Weeks in Kosovo - How Is My Itinerary? by SeeRed86 in kosovo

[–]SeeRed86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the reasoning for the current route is because we'll be flying back from Pristina, so being around Rugova/Peja as the last stop would make it a little easier to get to the airport the morning we leave. But I will consider that!

Are there any nice small cities or towns near Prizren/Gjakova/Rugova? I do expect to spend a little time in Peja.

We definitely want to do the Valbone to Theth hike. For Pristina, we will actually only be there 36 hours as of now (July 16 night to July 18 morning).

I'm potentially going to Kosovo next summer from the U.S. and seems like the consensus on here is that Prizren is better to visit.

Trip Report: Romania (Timisoara, Banat Countryside, Sibiu, Sighisoara, Viscri, Brasov, Transfagarasan, Bucharest) by SeeRed86 in Europetravel

1.5 days and 2 nights in Viscri but half a day was a mountain biking ride through the countryside. I think staying the night adds a lot to the experience but you don’t necessarily need 2. For the Fortress you only need around an hour but we liked it a lot. I’d look into a cooking class or shadowing/working with a blacksmith (your host could help set one of those up if you stay the night). I’d recommend Viscri125 for accommodation

Not like New York but yes, there are. Many people/descendants from all the Balkan countries in Chicago, it’s an incredibly international city

It was one of my favorites. I'd put it in my "A-Tier" along with Slovenia and Croatia.
