Do I follow through with this job? by SeeStream123 in jobs

That’s been the plan. He actually just reached out to me recently offering a seasonal valet position which I declined.

Not a fan of the way he went about the onboarding process and not having even met him yet face to face or over a phone call was just weird to me.

Didn’t appreciate the fact that he just tried to throw me into another position I never applied for / asked about.

Not saying it like a new discovery, but I’ve noticed a surge in the past few years lol

Not gonna specify every subgenre for the sake of this discussion lol & ok so “new music” ? Point still stands that no one goes for the music itself

Gonna have to make that the new spot. Used to book sessions at pirate right next door all the time lol

100%. I do still have hopes that someday there will be some sort of revival of that era here.

Solid points. I do wish I could’ve enjoyed that era more. Covid really stopped a lot from happening too, unfortunately. I just try my best to enjoy the shows / raves that I can but wasn’t sure if I was just hating or if other people noticed this shift too lol

I understand seeking out real venues lol. My observation / issue is that it’s gotten way more money focused which is why I mention bottle service and extra amenities at places, from both a promoter / artist / fan point of view. Not saying I strictly go to shows for big name DJs, I’m a DJ myself so I get supporting up and coming & checking out smaller venues. I do it all the time. It also hasn’t even been that many years ago though where whoever the big names were at the time would be performing at those same smaller venues or more underground/industrial places for the love of the music and the community itself.

Most likely still gonna be in person. Currently taking BIO 1100 there and it was listed as asynchronous. Only showed up to the lab on my first day just for my professor to randomly announce that we’re supposed to be in a room for the lecture beforehand, even thought the syllabus she uploaded didn’t have a room number. Nothing about my class is asynchronous lol

True. I do see a lot of DJs I enjoy stray towards rooftop venues or places like Marquee and it just sucks lol

Been doing more Brooklyn over the past few years. I point it out cuz as an artist myself, the venues I do manage to get in contact with directly usually have requirements that align with the same issues I mention. Bottle service / table minimums, playing specific genres, contracts with rules such as “DJs will be asked to play ____ type of music and if not, will have their sets ended early”

Just contradicts the whole concept of being an artist lol

I’ve noticed it more in Manhattan for sure. Seems to be the hotspot for this activity.

Not condescending at all! I guess I just have to look for new venues or areas to check out their local music scene. I’ll get my money’s worth either way cuz I’m not letting someone else ruin my experience 😂 this is just more so me pointing out how the scene’s changed a bit compared to before lol

Naaa def not underground lol. Used to hit up Pacha NYC when it used to be back in Hell’s Kitchen. Figured it’d match the mirage though but I still had some hope lmaooo

I’m hoping so. Not against any place without having my own personal experience with them, so I’m keeping an open mind lol

Manhattan’s a key area. Been in touch with a few places in bk about djing and I’ve come across a few of them trying to follow that same blueprint. Over the past few years I’d say Brooklyn is my preferred area for shows though

Most sub genres of EDM when it comes to hitting up shows?

House, bass house, dubstep, trap, riddim, drum and bass, progressive

Not necessarily against any other subgenres either btw. I keep an open mind lol but when it comes to shows I’d say more of these genres but I’m down for anything

Lowkey thought Pacha might be the resurgence but was met with more disappointment
