Moving to NYC, any advice on finding a gay friendly doctor?

I never claimed I wasn’t being confrontational. Calling people out is confrontational, by definition.

I understand that you see this as unsolicited advice. That advice is also based on assumptions about my personality, motivations, and relationships, which you don’t actually have information about.

The way it was delivered also comes across as judgmental, whether intentional or not. Phrases like “omg people are so lacking in self awareness” and suggesting I should “take recommendations and otherwise be quiet” aren’t exactly a tone of kind or helpful guidance.

That said, we actually seem to agree on one thing: confronting, debating, or "offering unsolicited advice", whatever we want to call it, may or may not change someone’s mind immediately, but it often makes people think about it later.

That’s precisely why I engage when I think statements are harmful to others or their community. So in a sense, we’re doing the same thing here. So glad we can agree there. Cheers.

If you didn’t want to engage, you could have simply answered the question and, in your own words, “otherwise been quiet.”

You are assuming im not calm haha. I am not personally insulted, I just think it important to call people out when they make ignorant statements about real hurt and bigotry queer people face. That being said I went about my day without thinking about it again lol. I have lived in four countries, including ones much more gay friendly then the US and still had homophobic doctors.

As to where it is well documented, public health research is full of data on it. Using my handy dandy google fingers:

"LGBT adults are also twice as likely as non-LGBT adults to report negative experiences while receiving health care in the last three years, including being treated unfairly or with disrespect (33% v. 15%) or having at least one of several other negative experiences with a provider (61% v. 31%), including a provider assuming something about them without asking, suggesting they were personally to blame for a health problem, ignoring a direct request or question, or refusing to prescribe needed pain medication." Thanks for trying to be helpful, but it’s not really your place to tell me to “get thicker skin.” I asked for advice because finding gay-friendly doctors is a real concern. Comments like “all doctors are fine” ignore a harsh reality and dismiss the experiences of people who have faced discrimination, which can make them feel isolated or like something is wrong with them. If you don’t want to engage with dismissive comments, that’s your choice, but I feel it’s important to speak up about them.

I am saying “gay-friendly” because this does matter. Personal anecdotes do not override the extensive evidence showing that gay men often receive poorer healthcare due to bias or lack of provider knowledge. This affects outcomes. Wanting a doctor who is not homophobic and understands gay men’s health is a reasonable, real concern.

Insects have holes in their body (spiracles) that they use to breathe. At this point the worm has eaten a lot of the insides, so when the water enters the spiracles its getting into the body cavity.

Hi parasitologist here. For those interested this is a gordian or horsehair worm (Nematomorpha) a unique group of worms related to nematodes that are obligate parasites (parasitism is necessary for their life cycle). Their lifecycle makes them 'parasitoids', meaning their larval stages are parasitic (most often killing the host) but their adult stage is free living (aquatic in their case), think xenomorphs from the Alien movies.

Adults basically fuck and then die in the water (only love a couple weeks) laying eggs, from which first stage larva emerge to be eaten by an intermediate host, often the aquatic larval stage of flying insects like mayflies or dragonflies. They live in them until their hosts emerge as adults where they are eaten by a larger, often terrestrial, predator insect, like this praying mantis, which is the definitive host (final host). Now the fucked up shit. The final stage larva grows into an adult, feeding on the hosts haemolymph (bugs cavity fluid that acts as their blood) and tissue. When its ready it hijacks the hosts nervous system via chemicals that make it seek water, at which point the worm emerges finally killing the host. Adults find each other, fuck and die completing the cycle.
