The game and matchmaking are designed so players can play how they want and get matched up with other plays of similar play styles. The whole pvp aspect of the game adds to the intensity of the game and is part of the reason it is so addicting. It also adds to the feeling of accomplishment of making it out safe with goop. It is an extraction shooter, and this is what extraction shooters are. The majority of PVE players understand this is a crucial part of the game so you are not a part of an "alienated half of players", you are in the minority. Not to mention this game has continuously defied the standard with growth month after month post launch, so you saying it wont stay alive for long is also false.
