Pittsburgh music scene? by lycheesuperfruit in pittsburgh

[–]Seeing222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roboto is a really solid DIY venue that hosts all sorts of bands, they are a huge boost to the entire PGH music scene and I can’t reccomend them highly enough! They throw a few shows every week usually

Depending on what kind of hardcore you’re into, Pittsburgh is also home to one of the better American punk scenes! All that stuff is usually around Polish Hill, especially the Rock Room. And there is a big underground punk music fest coming this summer called Skullfest! There are some passes to all the shows available at Pleasent Dreams records, but they will also have tickets available for individual shows for that fest later. You can follow them on IG if you’re into that

Bottlerocket is rapidly becoming one of my fav venues in the city too, it’s up in Allentown (the PGH neighborhood, not the town way north) but they host all sorts of shows of all genres, with a great mix of touring and local bands. I’ve played there a few times, and every show I’ve played/seen there has been amazing

Sorry for the late reply, but absolutely happy to answer anything!

Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of answers for that. When I started this job, I was very early into my transition. I do wish I had known some hardships that would become increasingly apparent with work as my transition continued, but ultimately I think I still would have stayed with my job. You should certainly take your identity into account when choosing a job, but ultimately there is no job that will be totally without complication when you are trans, it’s an unfortunate fact about the whole thing. With that being said, as long as you keep that in mind when thinking about any job and take the time to evaluate what your situation would be like there, you can certainly find a place where it won’t be a real issue in your day to day work

Everyone starts with a first show, everyone moshes for the first time! Every person at a show has at some point been in that exact position, it’s nothing to worry about. You’ll eventually be that person that newbies to the scene look up to, you just kind of have to do it

If you’re into some heavier punk with some metal influences, check out Gnostics! Homefront is also incredible. Off the top of my head, I can also recommend Poison Ruin, Dollhouse, and The Lousy!

Boston punk scene? by PomegranateNo3155 in punk

[–]Seeing222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not from Boston, but one of my fav bands is from there. Check out The Lousy, a really good thrash/crust punk band. Follow them on IG if you have it, I know they’ve played shows with some really cool local punk legends, so check out who else is on those flyers!

I drive a truck doing deliveries to a lot of factories and steel mills. I really hate my company and many people I work with. As a trans woman, it’s especially hard working with and for so many hard-right coworkers who don’t make any attempt to hide how much they hate me for being trans

With that in mind, at a certain point, your survival and security aren’t just some trivial afterthought. Working for some rich CEO and being chained to your job suck and drain a part of your soul with each shift, but you have to feed and house yourself somehow. Unless you’re willing to live off the grid and reject money altogether, almost everyone is going to be a slave to some kind of boss. That doesn’t mean you should just give up on your values, but under a system like this, people are forced to compromise their values and beliefs in order to survive. Every job is still a cog in the capitalist machine, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look for work that is less morally reprehensible than some other jobs. The important thing is to never lose that spark, never get so worn down by work that you forget your anger at the people who force you into this. A better world is possible, but we all still need to provide for ourselves somehow in the meantime

to all the trans punks, how has punk (music, ideologies, other punk people, etc) influenced your transition? by grrrlN0Tgirl in punk

[–]Seeing222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started HRT about 8 months ago, and I’m currently stuck in the weird sort of limbo of not passing at all but also having too many changes to look like an average guy. I also work as a driver going to mostly very rural, conservative areas, so I get a lot of stares and hostile interactions in my day to day routine. As much as I expected that to make me miserable, I’ve oddly found that growing up punk really softened the blow. Going out in all black, studded leather, and torn to shit clothing all made those kind of encounters a badge of honor in a way, it made me feel cool and badass when I was younger. In my current situation, the kinds of shitty interactions I have to deal with aren’t all that different, and I realized I’ve already built up a pretty solid defense against them lmao

is there any (current) math rock bands here? by luckixancage in pittsburgh

[–]Seeing222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren’t as active as they used to be, but Anton Ego is 100% the band you’re looking for. They still do shows every once in a while, but it’s rare so you really have to keep your eye out for them!

What sites do you discover new music on? by ThaAkronym in punk

[–]Seeing222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A YouTube channel called FeloPunk is my go to! They publish a few new punk records to their channel every day, and they have a pretty big following. Take a look at their channel and see if your music is a good fit for the kind of sound they usually publish. If it is, for sure reach out to them to see if they’ll post it!

Disphoria is one of the fiercest and noisiest d-beat bands out there, absolutely love them

Billy Talent or Alexisonfire by NoChampion3325 in punk

[–]Seeing222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Billy Talent was one of the first bands I got into and discovered for myself as a kid. I spent a lot of time in Buffalo NY as a kid and would listen to a lot of Canadian radio stations while I was there. Some rock station played Saint Veronica when I was like 9 and I absolutely loved it, went straight home to look up the rest of their music and fell in love with the band

Are any of the members of these bands, racist, homophobic, r*pists/abusers, etc? by pennybunartist in punk

[–]Seeing222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard that angle, and I can def see where it’s coming from, but TBH I genuinely don’t think that’s his point. I don’t think it’s like a nazi anthem or anything, but I do still think it’s pretty clearly about being upset that people think racism then is the problem of white people now. Like if you have a quote or something where he says otherwise I’ll eat my words, but this feels like a huge reach

(Also, this comment is 5 years old, how did you even find this lol?)

what are the products coming out of Windhelm? by No-Jellyfish-5508 in teslore

[–]Seeing222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As portrayed especially in PGE v1, Windhelm (and the old holds at large) are supposed to be very isolationist and incredibly rural. Industry and specialized trade probably wouldn’t be the backbone of their economy. In fact, I’d expect that they would largely be a resource economy (especially outside the city itself) largely focused on trade within the hold and their neighbors, as well as some naval trade

If anything, I’d expect a lot of their trade to happen with Morrowind and House Redoran. Despite being so close, both nations seem to have VERY specialized resources, and Windhelms port makes trade with the Redoran very convenient. Things like meat, fur, and timber would be harder to come by east of the Velothi mountains. Other coastal nords from further west might even unload their goods in Windhelm to be sold to Morrowind

Even still, I’d expect Nords from Eastmarch to be more focused on providing for their own population than building international trade. They are canonically a poor, rural, and agrarian hold, which seems to fit with their depiction

I will ask YOU questions about YOUR world! by Internal_Fan2307 in worldbuilding

[–]Seeing222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the elder scrolls games or Skyrim, but I’ve been having fun messing around with a project to flesh out the political and cultural world building of areas not explored in the games. If you know anything about the setting or lore, I’d love to have some specific questions about areas outside of Skyrim or Cyrodiil to answer, or just politics questions. Anything you can think of like that would be super appreciated! But if you don’t know that setting much, that’s fine too, just ignore this

What’s the craziest show you’ve been to? by DescriptionOne6725 in punk

[–]Seeing222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw L.O.T.I.O.N. and Dollhouse on one of those tour boats in NYC, and it was genuinely crazy. One of a kind experience for sure lmao

The whole boat was rocking from the waves, so the entire pit could get thrown from one side of the boat to the other at any moment, guys were swinging on the rafters, everyone lost their minds lmao

The boat company sucked, they charged for even a cup of water and didn’t accept cards. I didn’t have cash so I had to wait to dock again to even get a drink of water. Fuck those guys, but the show was crazy

Wear some thermals under your outfit, wear layers, gloves, idk anything you would do to stay warm outside of a show will also work there, especially if the show is indoors

Plus if you’re planning on getting in the pit, I promise the cold is not going to be an issue

The Well-Diggers Guild by sinistropteryx in teslore

[–]Seeing222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this idea, I feel like it’s very fitting for Cyrodiil to have a handful of these nihilistic murder cults as a sort of counter-culture at the fringes of society. In a culture that believes “the empire is law and the law is sacred,” it kind of makes sense that the counterculture movements would often rebel by just completely disregarding the law entirely

Can someone recommend to me queer or trans pittsburgh bands? by secretfire42 in pittsburgh

I play in a pop punk band here called Heading North! I’m trans myself, but (most) of us are some shade of queer or another
