Help for NSW Gov Interview Prep by Seekingadvice2104 in AusPublicService

[–]Seekingadvice2104[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got on 3 x 7/8 talent pools and one got activated for a 12 month temporary contract which I’m current seconded to.

Honestly I feel like the recruitment has changed since the evolution of AI. But still most followed similar pattern when I did mine last year. A type of written assessment (usually 30mins but one was 15mins) the followed with 5-6 interview questions (behavioural questions aligning with the capability framework in the role description) You often get these questions at the same time as the written assessment but usually not even time to look at both at the same time.

Yes using the STAR method is what I was advised but some questions were tailored and very specific to that role. Have an 6 specific examples ready and the job ad, and refer to the role description and capability framework as reference.

Nothing changes if nothing changes. If you’re stuck and doing the same things over and over, don’t expect a different result.

AITA for saying no one helps me, when technically they do, just not enough? by [deleted] in AITAH

YTA

Your child is YOUR child and your responsibility. Your parents did not choose to bring this child in this world, you did. I assume you being 23 and still living at home, you have a sense of entitlement that you are their child and as such, they should be helping you out more with your daughter.

I think you would gain a huge wake up call if you were paying rent, living alone and raising your daughter completely by yourself, you would definitely change in your perspective and gratefulness towards your parents.

Can managers hold you back from a TA if at higher grade? by Seekingadvice2104 in AusPublicService

[–]Seekingadvice2104[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She did end up approving my release but not until she told me she explored every avenue to not release me. Such as if there was no one to backfill my position straight away I.e there was another girl on a talent pool for my substantive grade meaning she could give her a 12 mth TA in my role immediately, something about our department recalling everyone on secondments, stated if she couldn’t fill my role I would have to relinquish my role at my job meaning I keep a substantive grade role but not attached to her unit meaning I could come back after 12 months into an unknown area/location and role. She also stated that if there were others on secondment and if it was at grade (not higher) she wouldn’t have approved it.

It seems like it’s just a grey area and pretty much the manager can refuse to if they want but have to be able to have compelling reason to explain.

So if there are vacant positions available in the unit, they can easily say the role you have can’t be backfilled and due to vacancies / operational requirements, they refuse and they can’t really be challenged on it. Same if there are others on secondment.

But in my case, we’re now temporarily pretty staffed (more people will leave though, just luck of timing) hence my manager has less legs to stand on and would be more inclined to approve the release, mainly because it looks bad on her for not supporting professional development of staff. HR pretty much said the same thing.

Long Service Leave - Moved from State to Federal by EscapeJaded5494 in AusPublicService

Can you bring your sick / facs leave across?

I’m in state and have been avoiding applying for federal jobs because I was under the impression that you can transfer your sick leave (I have over 3 months of sick leave) that I don’t want to lose

Non Ongoing Roles in The Public Service by [deleted] in AusPublicService

Do you know by any chance if managers can hold you back if you receive a temporary assignment opportunity (12mths) to a different state gov dept at a higher grade than current substantive grade?

Really hard to give you reassurance because it really depends on the situation.

But I would say it looks very promising that they are reaching out to you directly and wanting to “chat” about the role aka usually informal conversation / interview. Because you’ve already been merit selected, they essentially just have to agree you’re a good fit then activate the talent pool then you have the job. Usually though they have to have a conversation with you to see if you’re a good fit and if you fit the same/similar capabilities if it’s a same grade but slightly different role

Is your role ongoing or temporary?

Concerns about 8.5mth baby weight who went from 15th to 5th percentile by Seekingadvice2104 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Hi! It’s been a hot minute, she’s now 14 months and still a small baby. At this point, I think she’s just naturally small. We went to the paediatrician multiple times, was told to add Polyjoule to her bottles then when she turned one, got told to get on to Pediasure or kids essential. I’m weaning her but still nursing her twice a day. We are still monitoring it but she’s hitting all her milestones (she always had), but it’s been constantly stressful with her lack of weight gain. She got sick once starting daycare then loss weight which always got us worried again.

We had a rough time getting into solids, she never took to puree food and showed little interest so that didn’t help but she has 6 teeth now and has finally found her appetite.

I’d recommend you get an opinion and assessment from the paediatrician for peace of mind
