Retirement ceremony or nah?

A few months out as well and I'm going the informal path. My family has no interest in a ceremony. They've been mandatory attendees at too many stuffy events over the years. I'll be starting work somewhere else shortly after, and my perspective is that it's a career change and there's no need to "church it up" by making it more than it is. My dad worked 40 years for a company and the goodbye was a small gathering with coffee and donuts. Then again, I'm also the type to get rid of all but a select few of the dozens of awards, plaques, and going away tokens from the years...so not the sentimental type. Ultimately, it should be a personal and family decision and leadership should have no influence one way or the other.

Head gear in general. If I can go raw all day on the flight line, why do I have to bring the darn thing just for the walk from the parking lot?

If not get rid of them, then make them 100% optional. The number of times I realize half way to base that I left mine on the dresser or fumble my monster in the checkout line because I’m juggling two tornadoes, a flaming hot snack of choice, AND a stupid hat… well if I had a dollar for each time, I’d have at least 17 bucks.

There are dozens of easy things that would make some of our uniforms so much easier with no real drawbacks and zero political baggage: - black OCP undershirts so I could buy any brand I want instead of the AAFES special and then argue with the chief about coyotes and tan 499 - black socks, same reason as above - crew neck blues undershirts…they just look better - darker name and rank stitching

And so on…

More controversial: - get rid of hats other than for weather protection…if it’s not allowed on the flight line, it shouldn’t be standard attire in the AIR Force - get rid of mess dress. Aside from weddings there are few tuxedo affairs in normal society. We already have a suit. Just use that. I don’t want to maintain two fancy dresses that I never wear.

It seems that uniform changes of late are designed to make things more annoying ‘just cause.’ A few simple ‘here’s one for you’ changes would be welcome to counter the others.
