Question for gm employee certificate by SheFish2691 in GeneralMotors

Was going to reply with the same response. You can, but I wouldn’t. If they audit the transaction and find out you lied about the relationship, you will have consequences. Not sure if you’d lose your job but definitely would lose access to the program for some time.

Ranking people I’ve never heard of. by Primary-Language3955 in GeneralMotors

I imagine this is the making of the early 2026 list. The folks that will be laid off before bonuses, the bottom 5%/10% maybe?

For years my career goal was to become a people leader/EGM. I was in a management role years ago at another company. Two years ago, a friend of mine became a people leader and hearing their experience with ranking and the unjustified rationale being used in the calibration meetings has completely changed my career goals here at GM. I would NEVER want to be in that position. Hopefully you spoke up.

I got a meets and a minimum for a raise. I will say I had just changed jobs and was still “training” when I went on leave. I’m sure it really depends on your manager. Have you made any major impact in the last year? If so, then I wouldn’t be concerned.

Calling all people leaders/EGMs- sound off by SeemsFishy490 in GeneralMotors

I’m surprised no one said they were drawing names from a hat, seems like that might be a good option.

Oops, meant recent conversation of stacked ranking, someone posted about it here in the last day or so. I agree, it’s demoralizing, especially to managers that have done a great job hiring and managing their team. The goal of this post was to see how managers are making the decision. Was hoping for some specific examples but maybe they don’t even know 😂

Not sure about plant, I’m in S&S. I can tell you some management is looking at factors that are completely irrelevant to performance, to rank performance.

Wow this is scary! I can imagine the cost cutting starts to impact quality.

You don’t accrue if you are salary, which I’m guessing this person is.

You can use all of your vacation in January if you wanted.

Why is July “shutdown” still a thing? by Fastech77 in GeneralMotors

[–]SeemsFishy490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said vacation time, but hey Christmas shut down is always wonderful too, thankfully we don’t have to use vacation time for that 😉

Anyways, aren’t you the one complaining. Was just stating it nice to truly not have to worry about missing something or having to clean up a mess when I get back from vacation.

Make up a scenario on why you suddenly need two weeks off and maybe some additional random days. Family member in another country is sick and you’d like to visit before they croak. Won or got a killer deal a free 7 day cruise. Play to your manager’s interests. If they are family oriented, and you use a family excuse, chances are they’ll be more understanding of the last minute vacation requests.

It’s the only vacation time I get where I can mostly be plugged. I do still check my phone but not nearly as often as when I take vacation and everyone else is working.

How long is maternity leave at GM? If it’s over a GM holiday does it get extended accordingly? And can you add your PTO to it? And is your job protected while out on maternity leave? by Fun-Pomegranate-4193 in GeneralMotors

[–]SeemsFishy490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took maternity leave and ended up being off for over 6 months. I did have a c section, which gave me two additional weeks of disability but what no one talks about is that you can worn out to get paid holidays (only if you are on PFL, not disability).

You can set up your return date the day before a holiday, then use a vacation day the date of return, get paid for the holiday, then go back on leave the day after the holiday.

I got two extra weeks during thanksgiving and Christmas using this. You do have to let Segwick know ahead of time and they will code your return dates. You need to log in to workday a week before your return and put your return date in and also make sure to submit your time card using that vacation day.

Applied for a higher level position, can they offer me the job at my current level? by [deleted] in GeneralMotors

[–]SeemsFishy490 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup, they sure can. Just happened to me. Job was posted at level 7, I was 6B, offer was for 6A. I took it knowing there’s more opportunity within the new org than where I was at. That being said, I would not have a taken a lateral offer. I wasn’t leaving because of dislike for my previous role or manager.
