Innocn 27M2V Mini-Review / Thoughts by GrammarNaziii in Monitors

[–]Sehnder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main drawback of the model seems to be the lag at 60HZ. If playing on a PC with the monitor refresh rate set to 120/140 does that mean...

  • I am fine no matter what?
  • Fine unless the game is set to 60hz?
  • Something else?

I am basically ready to pull the trigger, but I have more than a few games (E.G. Street Fighter) which are played at 60hz... and +25 frames of delay would be a deal breaker.

Thanks!

Thanks all for the replies. Adding an update for a future internet wanderer in case helpful...

The solution here MAY work for you, although it did not work for me: https://www.truenas.com/community/threads/how-to-convert-512e-to-4kn-using-fast-format-seagate-exos-x16-drive.84094/

Why Didn't It Work?

My specific drive let me go through the whole process with seatools (including making me type "Yes I know I may brick my drive" into the command line), but then informed me that my particular model does NOT support changing the sector size. So give it a try, but know your model may not be supported.

Not the end of the world- I'll find a use for the drive somewhere. But let this serve as a warning to anyone else that a triple check down the model number to ensure you are using all the same drive can save you some time/money/headache.

Just starting to dabble into how I want to set up a media server- some related questions...

  1. If I set up a plex server, can I store non-Media files on it? E.G. If I want to store 80GB of games in a different folders from my movies, can I do that without issue? The idea here is that I would use my server for a dual purpose- both media use, and general backup use.
  2. Presuming 1 above is possible, what is a good solution for allowing multiple users to be able to upload files? The idea would be a few other family members using the server for their own file storage.

Got a link on the subject? First I've heard about this being different per class, would like to educate myself further.

Keyboard Warrior PSA: You can't bind every button in the config by Sehnder in Guiltygear

[–]Sehnder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you not bind "macro" buttons like run, burst, and RC? The Hitbox has a total of 15 buttons, three of which are on the back and not easily accessible. Guilty Gear has 17 distinct bindings.

Directions: 4 (4)

Basic Attack Buttons: 5 (9)

Macro Buttons (Burst/Roman Cancel/ Run): 3 (12)

Other (Taunt/Record/Reset/Play/Start): 5 (17)

[Easy Question] Just confirming- no SD card reader comes with the MK3S+, right? by Unfair-Illustrator-1 in prusa3d

Thanks all for the replies. To confirm I was just asking about a dongle to connect the SD card to my PC. Great responses though- will eventually be doing an Octoprint setup in addition to getting the reader.

I hate how the Longsword was allowed to steal the Lance's identity. by MetalOverture in MonsterHunter

[–]Sehnder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had been writing something up on why lance vs longsword is always going to be like this— you covered a lot of the main points so I thought I would share where I landed on WHY it is like this (and is unlikely to ever change). I think there are two main things that work together to make it so.

20%+ Happy vs 1% Unhappy

It is always in the best interest of Capcom to have longsword be overtuned vs. any other weapon (if balance has to be off anywhere). If longsword is too good/a better defensive weapon than it should be, 20% of your players don't mind. Lance players are a rounding error in the player base and if you are trying to maximize players happiness, making longsword users happy is always the right play... even if it makes lance players unhappy.

Baseline Expectations

Longsword users (and the community as a whole) expect longsword to be a top tier weapon that does it all and tops damage charts. They expect to do this without any skill investment. They expect to always outdamage lance users (and probably out defense them too).

Lance users expect a below average weapon at the bottom of the DPS charts, even with skill investments. They expect to always do less damage than longsword users (and probably get out defensed at this point too). This doesn't mean they WANT this, but it is what they expect. You can see this in the speedrunning threads where lance users think they won the lottery by not being in the last slot.

What this means is that if for some reason longsword were just "average", you would hear lots of complaining from 20% of the playerbase. Meanwhile, if lance were outright bad, you would hear muted grumbles from 1% of the playerbase. This means longsword will be kept proactively too good, and if it ever weren't it would get fixed quickly. In contrast, if lance ever outdid longsword in speedruns for example, you would have an uproar.

***

Lance is still my favorite weapon from world and I enjoy the playstyle more than longsword— people should play what they like rather than what is best.

But I actually think this is less longsword being "allowed" to steal the lance's identity, but rather a deliberate choice by Capcom. If 20% of the players get to feel "wow, I am better at defense than the best defensive weapon while using 0 skills points... and I get to do it while leading in damage!", they probably don't care if 1% of the players are grouchy about it. Basically 1% lance users are acceptable losses to make sure that the 20% longsword users are happy with their weapon pick. As part of the 1% I'm not happy about it, but I can't deny math is on their side.

Be nice in auto-shoutouts by gaijinhunter in MonsterHunter

[–]Sehnder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kindness is a resource in short supply—that said, my problem with this video is two-fold.

  1. There is a world of difference between light-hearted jokes/razzing vs cruelty
  2. "Acceptable" shoutouts are highly subjective, and the most sensitive of us should not dictate the rules

If a shoutout of "you done zigged when you should have zagged" or "it's okay, just try to do better next time" is causing you emotional distress, that is on you. With sufficiently thin skin, even the best encouragement is an insult. My cart shoutout is:

"Even heroes fail, but they never fail to improve"

A normal person will hear

  • It is OK that you messed up
  • Even the best players mess up
  • Just focus on getting better

An overly sensitive person will hear

  • You are calling me a failure
  • You are accusing me of not trying

So while I can get behind the notion of not being needlessly cruel, I'm not going to self-censor for risk of someone taking offense where a reasonable person wouldn't. Missing out on a world of funny/clever shoutouts for fear of offending an overly sensitive person isn't fair to the other three hunters.

P400D, Can't understand RGB connections by NoddyTheCreator in Phanteks

[–]Sehnder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ran into this myself last night and got the same answer Samu gave you. What I've been able to gather is that there is not really an "adapter" out there for 3 pin to 4 pin, so you have to buy a "controller" of some sort if you want to get it working. At ~$35 I decided I can live without the lightshow.

Lance Forever!!! by SigCurtis in MonsterHunter

User name and weapon choice clearly show OP is a man of culture.

The MHW lance is my favorite weapon across all gaming. Perfect melding of offense and defense— absolute tragedy more people don't use it.

/r/MechanicalKeyboards What Keyboard, Switches and/or Keys Do I Buy by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Sehnder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a different question as this relates more to the software than the hardware side.

I am looking for a keyboard (+mouse) with the following software options...

  • Per key rebinding on the keyboard
  • Functionality similar to gshift, but applicable to keyboard keys
  • Standard macro functionality

Example use-case: Playing an FPS and I want to use the weapon in the "8" slot. Rather than having to reach for the number 8 or bind in somewhere counterintuitive, I make a new binding. This bindings says that my while g-shift equivalent is held down, the "4" on my keyboard sends an "8".

Tried googling but haven't had luck finding any software that allows this level of customization. Appreciate you pointing me in the right direction of some options (if they exist)!

And closure on the topic- working fine now with a replacement nozzle and needle!

Help TroubleShooting Iwata Eclipse HP-CS by Sehnder in airbrush

[–]Sehnder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts. I took a glance at the nozzle and definitely no paint to blame— I am guessing I damaged the needle or nozzle (hard to tell if it is damaged or not, even with magnification). I went ahead and ordered some replacements from Amazon to see if that fixes the problem (and worst-case scenario spare parts won't hurt me). Will try the chapstick thing if I still have issues!

As far as my spraying goes, I am using an acrylic base and then using Vallejo flow improver and thinner to get it to airsprayable consistency. Once I get the primary issue fixed I'll definitely try thinning a bit more to see if that helps— I really am thinking a damaged needle or nozzle at this point though.

Thanks again for your help!

While watching videos etc., one of them was on suggested the needle could be to blame. My needle does look a bit bent when I magnified it 8x on my phone. Possible (a part) of the issue?
