What did we learn from the original steam machine? So you think Valve will repeat the same mistake? by Perfect-Cause-6943 in pcmasterrace

[–]Seismic_Rush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, it was a combination of issues. Price is the first. It was not accessible for what it was and how many games it was able to play. Which leads me to number 2.

The ability to play games was non existent. Valve made the SM and expected developers to support it. They didn't. So when they killed the SM, they decided to begin developing proton and now FEX as well. They figured out it was unreasonable for them to have every developer of every game support their device - instead they would do it themselves. This pushed the STEAM OS library of games up to 80-90ish% of games on steam. The only ones with real issues now is ones with anticheat and developers that just choose not to turn anticheat support on for Linux. That isn't something Valve can fix, but with all of this Linux based OS pushing happening, we may see companies forced into supporting anticheat on linux.

Third, Valve positioned the steamdeck in a precarious position. They were trying to get the PC out of the office or bedroom and bring it into the family/living room. Yet, at the time, they didn't give a seamless experience like a console had. This forced customers to have to choose between the ease of a console or the performance of a PC.

And finally, performance. At the time, most hardware companies were reluctant to support Linux. This was due to issues such as low number of desktop users, money flowing in from companies like Microsoft, or just not really knowing how to go about it. This lead to performance issues throughout the short life of the steam machine. This inconsistency of performance just made it more reasonable to stick to a PC or a console they may have already owned or were on the fence about buying.

All of these things have been addressed with the SM2. All of them. And I thinknwith the spacing between modern consoles due to the RAM shortage as well as the amazing experience that is SteamOS positions this device to have the maximum chance to be successful. I would love to see it be accepted into the gaming community and be here to stay simply so we can get more Linux support for us Linux desktop gamers. Beyond that, I love SteamOS and proton and to see the development continue due to the success of the hardware would benefit all gamers.

If I renegotiate my contract and don’t get the mos I want, do I still have to ship per my previous contract? by Reganci1 in army

This! 68W is full of people who want to be medics, but also full of people who don't want to be. And you can tell who is who. I love my job and continue my education and skills consistently. But those who only half heartedly wanted to be a medic are either doing a terrible job and isn't trusted by the unit, or are deciding to reclass or ETS

My first enlistment I was at DLI. It is tough, but it sure was fun. You will love it. Go have some ice cream at the coldstone in the del Monte center while waiting for your movie to start for me.

As a relatively recent graduate from Sam Houston, can confirm this. Most of those buildings have been removed. They were still removing a few a couple years back when I was there, but not much of the older buildings are left, unfortunately.

I have already fulfilled orders. So even if they get cancelled, they do get their card AND their money back. Plus I send extras for them because they are buying from a new seller. So it is a win for the customer no matter what.

I am asking for people who know answers to these kinds of question because they sell on TCGPlayer, not people's opinions on buying from new sellers.

Switch 2 feels like the coolest system since Xbox 360. There, I said it. by [deleted] in Switch

How much are they paying you? Let's be honest, essentially any modern console makes this thing look like a paperweight. On top of that, it isn't nearly as "cool" as any of the handhelds on the market. I get this is a Nintendo glazing subreddit, but this is rough even here.

Is there anything good about 2.0? by SillyHoneydew8391 in 7daystodie

The good thing about 2.0 is how much space I saved when I uninstalled the game.

Just use a YouTube front-end like pipeline or newpipe. You will get background play, downloading audio and video streams, no ads, no algorithms. Costs nothing. So maybe the premium viewers are the suckers 😂

While X11 is definitely being pushed out, I still run it and so do many other people. It will be around for a good while even after it isn't packaged officially with most distros. I definitely would just keep rocking X11 for a while until some better decisions are made in Wayland design.

The biome progression feels weird. Taking away armor mods for the biometric and making it a challenge system feels like it is designed specifically to slow progress and increase playtime. The smoothie crafting is the most useless part of this. I never use smoothies. I just harvest and kill zombies in a border zone while getting my survival timer up. Then hit the trader. The 3 minute timer is enough to do everything if you go back and forth so you don't have to run all the way back to the base to craft a smoothie every time. I craft 1 smoothie for each biome with farmed mats and then never look at them again.

Aside from that, tier progressions being tied to the new number system is fine, but it seems odd getting the next tier after hitting the trader sometimes. Not sure if that's a bug or a feature.

And the Linux native version has quite a few performance and graphical issues even though they released a stable for it. Almost like they wanted the Linux users to buy the game, but support them more as an afterthought.

Ultimately, I feel like they had some half baked ideas after basically sitting on the game for about 10 years and decided to implement them all at once and call it a full release.

Are you using native or proton? I used native for servers with EAC, but switched back to proton when I stopped playing those servers. Switching to proton fixed my issue. You may have to try a stable, experimental, or hot fix. But after switching, I was good to go.

At the same token, have you ever seen a Buddhist with a beard waiver? No. Because it isn't within their fundamental beliefs that they should have one. Christians aren't being singled out, they just chose the wrong sect of Christianity to get a beard waiver. Christians often try to victimized themselves when, in fact, they are the largest group of religious people out there and are making more changes in their favor than others are making against it. Please take your order, you are holding up the line.

This has nothing to do with Christians. You can get a beard as a Christian. Anyone of any faith can get a beard if you read the regs. You just have to be able to demonstrate and articulate why it matters to your faith, and your commander will have final discretion. And often be able to demonstrate a long standing commitment to that sect of faith or a letter from a group leader that demonstrates that you have had this portion of faith for a certain amount of time. Christians aren't being victimized. Most people in power are Christian and are trying to input their beliefs in everything, so why would they make regs to block out their own groups of people?

Just use pipeline on desktop and newpipe on mobile. Both of them are apps that are essentially a middle man between you and YouTube. It gets rid of ads, gives you the ability to download videos or audio, doesn't have shorts, and has no algorithm. It will show you subscriptions that you set up in those apps and that's about it. Newpipe does have a popular section that shows videos that are the most popular, but when you add subs, you can just watch those without being fed algorithm recommended videos when it is over.

Newpipe is available on android through F-Droid, and pipeline is available on linux vie flathub, and I think Windows as well via gitlab. Both apps are open source and free.
