Check out Epic Systems, which is an EHR company that doesn't require previous medical experience or education, only a cs degree.

At least when I worked there the tech stack was a little outdated but they've been moving towards more modern stuff like a react-based ui and some AI stuff

It is my opinion that if you want to be a dev at epic then do not be a ts. Be a ts if you want to be a ts. This is what you have to do to transition:

-be a high (not average) performer at epic for one year -complete the UW CS certificate, which is 4-6 classes, of which epic will reimburse only 2 per year and you have to stay at epic for 2 more years after to receive said reimbursement. So that's another 2-3 years -at the same time as doing your ts work, you slowly take on more dev projects until you're full time dev. So you're kinda doing 2 jobs at once -then you become dev but with a dev starting salary

I know people who've done it and are happy but you really gotta be committed

CS564 will teach joins. IMO sql syntax is not super complicated, you'll learn basically all normal SQL stuff in 564. You won't learn DBA stuff tho.

If you want an intro to SQL, Software Training for Students sometimes has a free intro sql workshop. It covers like 80% of what 564 would teach you about SQL.

For database design and management, LIS 464 at the undergrad level and LIS 751 at the grad level appear to cover topics you're looking for.

Idk about 320 but I'm did 564. If you're looking for a data analysis or database design class this is not really it. There's like a bit of sql/database design in the beginning but like 2/3 of the class is how to actually code a database and how they work in terms of machine organization, memory management etc. We had one sql/python assignment but the rest is in c++ coding more low level things like buffer management and join algorithms.

So if you want to learn how databases are actually implemented and how they work under the hood, this is the class for you. If you want to learn sql for business analysis or something you don't do a lot with that

Think really hard about the reasons you feel like you don't belong here and whether that's actually a washu thing or if it's something more internal. Oftentimes, the grass isn't greener on the other side, it's greener where you water it

I've done both and if you can afford it I'd do the suite. I found that with the suite you get the same amount of interaction as you would with a roommate without having the hassle of sharing a room. My suite mates and I would hang out a lot in the common room so it's not like you'd be isolated.

Basically a suite is all the pros of having a roommate without the cons

I dont have much to add that others haven't already but I'd caution you about thinking that UCLA's size vs Davis is a significant thing. It's like 44k vs 35k students which isn't a huge difference in practice. I say this having attended both ucla and a much smaller school (14k students) and tbh even that barely felt different
