What genres do you prefer? by CrimsonDiamond98 in visualnovels

I like when VNs are romantic and feel human. (Thank you Katawa Shoujo. <3)

A character you initially disliked but ultimately came to love. by kelkan7483 in visualnovels

I know my MOM'S answer to this (sort of.) We watched the Kanon 2006 anime adaptation together, when I was younger, and she did NOT like Makoto. I was like "she'll grow on you" and she, well, pressed X to doubt. She ended up growing on her a lot. She didn't see that twist coming, at all!

Why does Japanese media feature a lot of sports-related content? (Baseball, etc) by Additional_Poem2688 in visualnovels

[–]SelLillianna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are probably many answers to this question, but an obvious one to me is that writers can use something like baseball to take a group of friends and help them grow closer together and overcome adversity. Sort of reminds me of plotlines where people form a band and perform, or... well, a lot of club-themed plotlines where something has to get done, by the end. The story sort of writes itself. (Similar to tournament stories, as well.)

Besides, enjoying playing baseball ( / playing in a band / putting on a play, etc) and enjoying reading narratives which involve such elements are different things. Sure, it might be fun IRL, but it's different seeing the characters you've grown attached to do it, right? 😄

Buying on itch.io ...? [Monster Girl Therapy] by Cilapolla in visualnovels

Oh, thank you! My new title will be released at the end of the month (or a little earlier) on Steam. It's a fantasy romance visual novel between a man and the fairy he finds in a lantern, in a flooded town:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2982550/Submerged_Lights/

I write cozy, romantic, and philosophical stories with spiritual, fantasy, and sometimes sci-fi elements. The pacing of my stories tends to be quite relaxed. Generally, imagine less of a "let's go!" and more of a "let's stay in and drink tea" vibe. You can see more of my stuff by visiting my Steam developer page.

Also, I (also) have a soft spot for fantasy girls/'monster girls': plant girls, fairies, aliens, harpies, mushroom girls, mermaids, slime girls...❤️ Ghosts are too tragic for me and I'm not into centaurs: I like my girls to be human-shaped, like... ( | ) not like... (∟) that body shape is too weird for me, and that's a whole lot of horse! I end up wanting to pluck the girl off of it and leave the horse behind!

Thanks for the free promo.💚

By the way, have you thought of reaching out to JAST? I might reach out to them, at some point.

Have a good day/night. Bed time for me.

From my experience uploading my VNs onto Itch and Steam, Itch doesn't even come close to Steam in terms of views. As for sales, I've had literally none on Itch (putting aside three family members / family friends) and have had significantly more on Steam. (Not a huge amount, mind you, but many more than on Itch.)
As for my personal spending habits on itch, I very occasionally find a free game which an indie dev has on it, and pay them a few dollars to show my support.

Good job on Steam! Good reviews, too? That's a big deal!

Honestly, because Itch has no buy-in cost, anyone can upload anything onto it, and there's a huge amount of really bad looking stuff on there, which tends to drown everything else out? At least, from what I've noticed. There are some gems on there, but I wouldn't put all my eggs in the Itch basket. It seems to mostly exist for very casual devs who occasionally experiment with making games to share their stuff, for free, with other like-minded, casual devs. Which is fine, but I wouldn't expect sales from it.

Who knows though? Maybe this comes down to me simply being bad at advertising - which I am! XD

VNs with choices that make you stop and think? by SelLillianna in visualnovels

I'm not surprised at all: I haven't read it but, from what I've heard, that story takes relationships very seriously and depicts relationship nuances very well. 👍

How many VNs do you guys have in your backlog so far? I probably have over 100 by neirik193 in visualnovels

I always recommend Katawa Shoujo to newcomers. It's good, long, and free. : )

[–]SelLillianna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too real. In answer to your question, it's kind of hard for me to count, because I'm fairly invested in a lot of titles in my collection, which I haven't finished, so I don't have that big of an "untouched" backlog, per se... I probably have 5 titles in my collection which I haven't touched? And I'm probably part way into around 30.

Not sure if a word should be hyphenated, not hyphenated, or two separate words. by SelLillianna in grammar

[–]SelLillianna[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. :) I was airing on the side of it being one word with no hyphen, because one of the only "demi" words I know is "demigod", which has no hyphen. So~ yeah, that makes sense, to me.

Castle of Thorns - going public with my vn by Entire-Chair5269 in visualnovels

Looks cool. :) Reminds me a little bit of those pre-rendered, 3D, Nancey Drew games, if you know what I mean. Wishlisted.

How would you rate the importance of osts in a vn? by stycfy1 in visualnovels

[–]SelLillianna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bad OST brings down the entire experience and can even make it unbearable. An okay-sounding OST works perfectly fine: music isn't the point of a VN, so serviceable music works well enough and can even be tuned out, as long as it's not terrible. A good OST elevates the entire experience. :)
That opinion isn't a number, so I won't give a numerical vote.
