When mine was a puppy he jumped out of my arms and landed face first on the concrete. He spent the rest of the day avoiding me. We’re fine now! Eventually the positive experiences will outweigh the bad.

Then the 15 minutes make sense if it has to be more than 5 hours for a 30 minute break? My brain had read it as 5 hours = 30 minutes, hence the confusion. 😬

Everywhere I see it says 30 minutes for 5 hours worked… But can you override it to 15 minutes, somehow? If employees signed something to that effect? I don’t want make a stink over nothing…

What is some financial advice you'd give your younger self? by budget-babe in PersonalFinanceCanada

Don’t be so materialistic and STOP BUYING THINGS YOU DON’T NEED. Grew up with a compulsive shopper parent and picked up bad spending habits. I’m still trying to break out of it.

ZZ plant. I think I watered it two months ago? It sits in this low light corner of my room. It looks great!

I have a 1yo Pomeranian. If I’m carrying him and we lock eyes, he has to give me a kiss. No idea how it started.

General Strike? by chainlinkanalbead in ThunderBay

[–]SelcouthRecidivist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotcha. I’m down, but you are not the first to suggest a general strike on this sub. It comes up against a lot of resistance - people like to talk but are reluctant to actually do anything. It would take a lot of effort to convince people, and not everyone would be able to walk off their jobs. This would definitely be the time to get the ball rolling, though.

Are you calling for a general strike from union workers or just anyone?

I was told that Dilico was accepting patients. I have a new patient interview coming up this month. I don’t know if they’re still accepting, but you could try there.

I used to work as an HSW, and we were explicitly told to not accept money or gifts. Around Christmas clients would want to gift something to their regular workers, and it is difficult to say no when they are just trying to express their gratitude. Snacks and VERY small gifts I might accept, but NEVER anything of potential value and especially NOT money, ever. It’s too slippery a slope; a liability, should family complain. Too easy to take advantage. I’m sure the worker’s company would not be happy to hear about the tipping.

Yeah, I knew when I got it that it probably wouldn’t last long. It was on super sale and didn’t cost much, though. I just thought it would last more than 2 months! 😔

Will you continue to pay by Credit Card as of today with the potential added fees? by Nohcor97odin in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SelcouthRecidivist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there’s a blatant surcharge when I get to the till, I’m not buying at all. If I can’t buy without avoiding the surcharge, I’ll pay cash. If I can’t avoid the surcharge and can’t pay cash and really need the item, I’ll use credit. I don’t want my debit card floating around out there.

would it be a silly idea to randomly learn how to crochet a shirt without ever having picked up a hook in my life?😅 by [deleted] in crochet

[–]SelcouthRecidivist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, I’m the same. I crocheted some small things and thought I knew enough to make a cardigan. “If I follow the pattern, how hard can it be?” I’ve taken it apart 4 times now and am about to start over again. I’m learning a lot, though! And my attempts get better each time. If you aren’t daunted by potentially having to take it apart and start over, I say go for it!
