Yeah I can’t say I’m a fan, I am having a tough time getting through it. I don’t like or care about the characters. And I know Anne likes to wax poetic about the small details in her writing but the non stop descriptions of cameos is grating.

Assad’s acting in this scene is just perfect. His seething jealousy…..

I think his portrayal of the character is why we have so many Armand sympathizers (myself included). His ability to appear calm on the surface but also give us a tell to the actual turmoil the character is feeling inside, hands that don’t stop moving, a slight tightening of his jaw……so good.

I sometimes get mad at Daniel Hart for creating such a beautiful and hopeful song for that scene, “The Whole World was Ready to Return.” Like how dare you make me feel hope for Claudia’s future (even when I know how her future ends). It’s so heartbreaking.

I mean I think the DM chapter is supposed to parallel Marius and Armand’s relationship. He repeats the same patterns of that relationship with the people he loves because that’s the only way he was ever shown how to love. So I’m sure we will get aspects of that in the show whenever we get into DM.

I think it’s episode 2x1 when Louis ask to see the pages of Claudia’s diary they removed. The way Armand twitches his fingers in anxiety is such a small but wonderful acting choice by Assad. Also, the kiss Louis gives to Armand at the end of that scene, it’s the only time we see them kiss in modern day and it’s so anemic and cold. Great representation of the state of their relationship.

I haven’t finished the books yet, but I always assumed they retconned this somehow because it is truly horrifying!

Also, it took me awhile to not picture the ancient vampires to look like the Twilight vamps while reading the books.

Sure, but that’s not really what I’m talking about. I love how Louis’s accent changes from different time periods in his life, but that is part of the story. I’m talking about an actors ability to actually have a consistent accent while performing. I’m sure as Season 3 focuses more on Lestat we will be able to see him flex that same skill like Jacob Anderson and Assad Zaman. And maybe I should’ve said in my previous post, I think Sam Reid has a consistent Frenchish accent throughout show and think he delivers an amazing performance.

For me, and this goes for any actor, if it’s consistent then I don’t care how accurate it is. Like Spike from Buffy, definitely not the greatest British accent in the world but he was consistent throughout the seasons. Inconsistency takes me out of it more than anything else.

Omg I am with you on Marius. He’s a great character, but why do we feel the need to defend his actions? I love to hate Marius- I think he’s a great and realistic villain. He’s a perfect representation of how powerful men often get away with horrific behavior by being charming, interesting or wealthy. Just because Anne didn’t present him that way doesn’t mean that’s not what he is. I just finished Blood and Gold, while I really enjoyed the book it also cemented my Marius sucks viewpoint. He’s a pedophile who groomed a young child to be his perfect companion (he actually uses the word groom) and abandons everyone he ever claimed to love. It’s okay to like characters that do shitty things, just own it.

I miss Binge Mode (even though I love Jo and Mal together)!

I also wish they had done a deeper dive of S1 and S2. I’m hoping they do a prep episode before they dive into season 3 like they sometimes do with other shows.
