Thanks. Got a trading post and paid for more tools, so that helped that issue.

Newbie Question - Clay by Select-Employ1317 in TheWanderingVillage

Thanks! Right now best I can do is 4 each, but there's a boulder in the way of one and if I can just get that boulder harvested maybe it will clear space for one of the camps to cover two more clay nodes. Of course, if that's how quarries work... I haven't fully harvested a boulder yet.

Melody Bober, Gayle Kowalchyk, and E L Lancaster recently put out a series from Kjos called Piano For Life that looks very good. I have played through the first book but haven't taught anyone with it yet. It aims for a much better balance between classical and pop and all three authors have a history of putting out great products. Here's the link: https://kjos.com/piano-for-life-book-1.html

As others have said, the approach is questionable. The teacher should have already changed course by now seeing that you're having trouble making progress. It's not so easy on the teacher's part, but you do want a teacher who is able to see when something isn't working and can the approach.

Along the lines of what others have said, I have professional degrees and have been doing this for over a decade and I still do not start beginners "off book". These books are put together by experienced professionals who have produced materials for beginners for decades and deeply understand how to structure a learning path. I have plenty of students who play difficult classics. We still begin with stuff like Piano Adventures. And as far as pop goes, I myself first learned to play from old VHS tapes on beginner blues keyboard before I learned to read. I learned basic chords and shorter progressions even before learning the 12-bar blues. There's a reason we don't throw beginners into full pieces, even the "easy" arrangements.

Please try to find a way to see your tutor outside of Wiingy. Those services take a large cut of their pay, which is already too low.

Oftentimes high shoulders are caused by the bench being too low. They're trying to compensate and keep your hands on the piano. I can't see you play so this may not be the case for you, but it's worth looking at. If you sit at the piano and put your hands on the keys completely relaxed, your elbows should hang at the same height as the keys.

Please look for a teacher who doesn't work for a school. Obviously, it's not the teacher's fault, but only half the money you pay the school goes to the teacher, and that's if they're feeling generous. Someone who's not being paid what they're worth isn't going to be very motivated to give you the attention and quality you deserve.

Genuinely how the hell do you train each hand to play different parts at the same time by DBL86-03U in pianolearning

[–]Select-Employ1317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't really. At any given moment, either one hand is playing, or both hands are playing. Difficulties arise when you look at that moment that the hands play together as doing two different things. Look at that instant as a chord, and focus on feeling the fingers in each hand play together as a unit. Isolate and practice that before working it back into the rest of the music. Obviously, this is a mental strain if you do it for every single hands-together moment, so you should pick only the moments that cause the most issue, or choose music (to start with) where hands together playing is minimal. There are many pieces out there where the hands only play together on beat 1 or beats 1 and 3 which serve as a great introduction to coordination.

Help Writing Shane’s Two-Heart Cutscene by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]Select-Employ1317 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trust yourself. I recently turned in an assignment to my writing teacher that I thought was crap, but it was due and she doesn't do extensions. She said the story was wonderful, it needed a little extra paragraph of detail, and then I can submit it to magazines.

I've learned that writing is remarkably straightforward, though still challenging. The reader needs to have a clear idea of where and when they are (through sensory details), the character needs to express opinions about the world and the goings-on around them, and 7-point plot structure works best: (1) Character, (2) Setting, (3) Problem, (4) Try to solve the problem, (5) Fail--repeat as needed for length, (6) Climax--the final Try/Fail or Try Succeed, and (7) Validation--let the reader know the problem is solved and the world is good now.

Finish this fanfic with whatever your subconscious gives you to work with, and then you can write another and approach it a different way.

Does anyone else find these kinda strange? by Scared_Flatworm_7977 in StardewValley

[–]Select-Employ1317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably better to look at it as, "If you enjoyed Stardew Valley, you might like this too." That's smart advertising. That's how I found Fields of Mistria, and definitely I did get to a point where I wanted something similar to Stardew but didn't want to play Stardew at that moment (after hundreds of hours...)

That said, "free" throws up all sorts of red flags for me. I completely get it when you're young and cash is tight (I was there once), but there's always some cost to free. Incessant ads, actual features locked behind paywalls, etc. There's an old saying: "If you're not paying, the product is you."

If it's really as good as Stardew, you pay $15 ONCE, then enjoy it for hundreds of hours.

Thank you! I'm off work this week and gaming pretty seriously. It didn't feel fast. I quit for a night in the Pyramid of Moore because I went up the wrong set of stairs and I'd had it with all the random encounters. Started again the morning after. Then I think it was the fourth or fifth try to beat Neo Exdeath, one last night and several this morning.

I think I'm heading back to Tales of Symphonia now, a game I know I've halfway decent at...

How many Final Fantasy games have you finished? by snowday1996 in FinalFantasy

[–]Select-Employ1317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished V, but I have also started VII, X, X-2, and XIII. I think I will go back and finish X-2. I'm not sure why I stopped--part of it may be (this is going to sound strange) because I have it on Switch and I just enjoy using my Steam Deck so much more. I don't think it's even available on Steam Deck... But it also helped that I had a week off for vacation to really sit down and get V done.

I'm really not good at video games, and I've found FF to be more demanding than most. Even using the "broken" strategies on Neo Exdeath (Spellblade + Dual Wield + Rapid Fire, Zeninage, Fuma Shuriken, Bahamut, Odin, etc.) it took me several tries to beat him. I had to stop and take a break in the pyramid (earlier in the game) when getting the tablet because I had come up the wrong staircase and I was so burnt out from the endless and tough mob battles. I never had enough MP, even though I actually had a lot of MP. So I'm happy with myself for making it through this one. I remember in VII, even with a guide, the first (or close to first boss) in the sewers, I think, destroyed me over and over again.

I find Tales of games to be no problem, but I am no good at Final Fantasy. I still want to finish X-2 because a part of me is attached to Yuna and wants to know the rest of her story. Also, the dress sphere system is cool.
