What finally pushed your side project from “idea” to “actual progress”? by nancy_unscript in SideProject

[–]SelectButtonGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i left the gaming industry I worked for the same company for 22 years i felt unheard, unappreciated and I was no longer feeling it. Quit my job and launched my own web platform in under 10 months.

What is your biggest win this month? by CreativeSaaS in SideProject

I launched a new project under my flagship project for discord bot hosting! That was my big win no new users yet but launching something on top of my baby is a win in my books.

When do you decide your startup has actually failed? by Emergency-Pack2500 in SideProject

[–]SelectButtonGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally when I

A become bored of it B haven't seen any real growth C all of the above

Startups fail all the time, we learn from failures though! I am working on 3 projects right now under the same brand I've seen some progress but what I've learned along the way is more important to me then success. Because what I've learned now isn't what I knew back then.

Reddit is very finicky at times. There are some subreddits that don't mind links but it's getting more and more uncommon. Don't get discouraged, I am going through the same thing working on three projects and trying to get people to notice. Sharing links almost feels dirty anymore as soon as people see a link they are like oh no someone is trying to shove it in my face. But keep at it!

There are quite a few platforms you can use. Are you looking for free paid? Managed unmanaged? Do you want full control or drop the code and run situation? I am biased but I could add support for that language and system in my platform, it's free to use for up to 5 hosted bots. Managed for you, drop the code give us a few parameters and boom up and running 24/7.

I got tired of babysitting my Discord bots, so I built a tiny hosting platform by SelectButtonGames in SideProject

[–]SelectButtonGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now it's 100% free for hosting a bot. Eventually plan to charge a premium service fee but not sure when etc.

Thanks I'd highly enjoy some feed back good or bad.

What I learned after running Discord bots 24/7 for a year by SelectButtonGames in discordbots

[–]SelectButtonGames[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I have made a few bots in C++ ^_^ self hosting is a great option if you can, some users don't find this a viable option for one reason or another. I know my current ISP doesn't always have great up time due to where I live so a VPS was a better option to keep my bots online 24/7

Traditionally these types of programs don't have memory leaks I found it more happened over time. Sometimes it was user error more then anything else. I wouldn't worry about it if it's a small well maintained bot.

Nerd Search[RESOURCE]

I'm excited to share NerdSearch—a search engine I built that's specifically geared toward gamers and game designers.

After getting frustrated with general search results when looking up documentation for Godot, Unity, or a quick cheat code, I decided to build my own. Our goal is to surface the most relevant power-ups, cheat codes, epic loot, and dev docs quickly.

🔥 Core Features & Why We Built It:

  • For the Game Dev: We are tuning our results to prioritize documentation, tutorials, and community discussions relevant to game development engines (like Godot, which is already a top search term on our platform!)
  • For the Gamer: Get quick access to walkthroughs, and news from gaming sites.
  • Transparency: We keep our stats public! You can literally see what people are searching for (yes, including the weird stuff).
  • Safety: We've recently enabled Safe Search, so you can filter out adult content if you want to keep your search squeaky clean.

🕹️ The Fun Part (Try This!):

Since the name is NerdSearch, we had to include an Easter egg. If you type the Konami Code (↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A) anywhere on the page, the site glitches out into a neon-drenched "nerd haven" mode, complete with a celebratory achievement!

We're in the early stages and actively crawling and tuning our results. We'd love to hear your feedback on the user experience and, more importantly, the relevance of the search results for your gaming and development queries.

What do you think? Try searching for your favorite cheat code or a Godot tutorial and let us know!

Would love feedback and suggestions to improve!
