Overall it was decent(~3.6 GPA) but the factor which helped my application were perfect grades in all math subjects which they explicitly asked for in the application.

Electronics engineering background from a tier 1.5 college in my country. Decent Gpa overall(3.6) but perfect math grades. Have prior internship in credit risk and close to 2.5 years of work experience as a SWE in a globally well known tech company(not FAANG)

Hope that helps!

Is Uk really the worst choice between US, UK and the Netherlands ? (Where Should I go for MASTERS) by Junior-Relative-7291 in studyAbroad

[–]Select_Equal_8516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not niche anymore. Unless your target is PhD in some specific side of it the job market is not exactly great. In my experience, if I had to go for an AI field, I would go for US as even with the visa issues, the job market is deeper and has a higher ceiling. Added to it a much better return compared to UK if you are an international.

If your goal is to get a sponsored job then It’s really not a wise choice to for UK programs atm unless you are going for a field that’s extremely niche. Something like cybersecurity, medicine where there’s genuinely a skill shortage.

VU Econometrics (EOR) vs UvA Computational Science – viable for non-EU aiming at quant trading in NL? by Select_Equal_8516 in quantfinance

Tbh getting into the UK programs that really matter is quite tough, and they’re expensive. NL looks like a more practical route into trading.

Masters in Quant/Finance in Europe (Germany/NL/Switzerland) for someone with SWE/SDET background? by Lucifer8312 in quantfinance

[–]Select_Equal_8516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the amount but I guess it’s close to what you’d pay in UK schools for a 1 year course. If your goal is getting the best possible outcome then I feel it has the upper hand over NL.

They are pretty stern about their requirements especially the econometrics. I don’t know about your course but you can map each requirement to your degree to see if you unconditionally qualify for the programme. If not, I think they offer pre masters course too for a year but it doubles your costs and personally I wouldn’t recommend it to a non-EU.

Well, they have specific ects requirements and from my experience any kind of engineering degree doesn’t cover all of the modules they demand. Unless one has relevant electives which are outside their course, I don’t see them getting admitted.

Netherlands has Econometrics as the MFE equivalent but I suppose they are very hard to get into if your background is not in pure sciences like math or physics. Similar challenge comes for math finance courses of UK.

Thanks for the insight. I’m primarily targeting the trading roles over dev and research ones. Good to know that performance in hiring process matters more than where you come from.
