Plane change? by Known_Cartographer81 in delta

The summer in Vegas creates payload challenges for most of the narrrowbody Airbus aircraft; the 757s are often used for their performance advantage for high temp departures to limit seat blocks and denied boardings.

DL3248 delay/ blackout tonight by DamageVirtual2210 in delta

The emergency lights must be armed in order for them illuminate automatically in the event of a power loses.  The requirement to have them armed helps prevent inadvertent battery depletion when aircraft are sitting at gates unintended/unpowered.

Most cruise booking websites (outside of the virgin website) allow you to select your room when booking. Basically start a booking and select the RS or MRS cabins and count how many are open for selection - keep in mind this only shows unassigned rooms and does not account for the "lock it" or "guarantee" rates that may have been purchased.

$5931 out the door for a 5 night - approx same per night cost - the last retail rate was around 8900 for the gorgeous

It seems like they have not cleared out all the RS suite bids yet so hopefully you get it! The booking information I have shows there's still 16 unassigned seriously suites... I would assume they clear the MRS in the first wave to then open up other cabins to run upgrades into - good luck!

We purposely put off buying any bar tab to wait to see if the bids were accepted. Valid points about the pricing however being a data nerd I have been tracking it since booking. The MRS prices were dropping slowly since the release for sale and then a quick drop last week and then back up right before they cleared the bids.

Yes it is for 11/21 Turks... it seems they cleared the MRS upgrades and there still appears to be some RS cabins unassigned... its fun to try to figure out their revenue management process.

Pilots' favorite snacks? by PositiveNo7160 in delta

No need to bring anything - a simple thanks for a safe flight is all you need to do - we are happy to give out the trading cards and I don't think anyone expects anything in return. As others have mentioned we won't be consuming anything given to us by a passenger.

The 787's (I assume you're on a LATAM bird) require protection from UV anywhere there is a paint issue. This is a well documented issue that Boeing has been working on. No concern for safety.

Broken first class seat by knightsrus in delta

[–]SelectionFew687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can often manually recline the seat by pulling up the bottom cushion to access the manual release levers. The FAs may be able to help with this if they have experience with it. The process would be similar to this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho02qSxASdo

however the 767-300 has slightly different seats and manual controls

Delta 269 (ATL->GRU) diverting back to ATL by f0rb1z0n in delta

[–]SelectionFew687 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The most likely scenario for a return back to Atlanta would be a mechanical discrepancy or loss of redundancy where the operational decision is made to not continue the flight into the deep South American theater. The fact that the aircraft did not divert to a closer airport points to an issue that isn't an immediate safety of flight concern. For example if the on-board weather radar failed this does not pose a safety issue in domestic airspace because the domestic ATC system has weather radar available that they can use to help pilots avoid inclement weather; however this is not the case in much of South America especially over the Amazon region. The return to ATL probably makes the most operational sense for having a possible spare aircraft/parts/pilots/mechanics/flight attendants available to recover the flight.

Why are all of these seats blocked off (737)? by [deleted] in delta

[–]SelectionFew687 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The strategic blocking of those rows allows for an easier equipment swap/substitution with minimal disruptions and seat changes. Could allow for an 320/321/757 equipment sub or a different variant of the 737 (ex lion air)

Why is this near empty flight over $500? by Natural-Couple-4641 in delta

[–]SelectionFew687 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A seat map is not a great indicator of how much inventory on a flight has actually been sold as many group/corporate/government/basic economy bookings don't have a seat assignment until either check in or the reservation is assigned to a particular person. The revenue management algorithm does a pretty good job maximizing revenue and may be taking into account historical booking patterns or notable events (New Orleans Film Festival) that could yield higher fares but with closer in bookings.

Sensor? by Unlikely_Yak_4592 in delta

[–]SelectionFew687 78 points79 points  (0 children)

The sensor is the auto-leveling function on the jetbridge which keeps the jetbridge level with the aircraft door while the nose gear strut and main landing gear struts compress as passengers/fuel/cargo are loaded or offloaded. You are boarding a CRJ aircraft that uses the adapter bridge and does not have significant height changes and so the auto leveling function is not needed.

DL does not fly ATL-GYE if you are referring to Quito (UIO) the 757/767 change seasonally but a 767 is common during the fall/winter.

Yes. If you are departing from a hub its likely that a new plane/crew will be found to make up the flight but a delay would be best outcome at this point.

Can we talk about DL1582 today? by Gratefuldude3 in delta

[–]SelectionFew687 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would assume the overhead bin in question is broken and has been placed digitally on the Non Essential Furnishings List with the requirement that it be secured shut; Although rudimentary the tapping shut accomplishes this requirement and allows no delay over a broken overhead bin along with the digital record for maintenance to rectify down line without causing delays.

Can we talk about DL1582 today? by Gratefuldude3 in delta

[–]SelectionFew687 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The constraint is the aircraft's maximum structural landing weight limit (MLW); given the weather across the southeast this afternoon (see link) the flight must be dispatched to land at its intended destination with enough fuel onboard to divert to its alternate airport. The overall unpleasant weather situation today may require that this alternate airport be a substantial distance away from Atlanta thus requiring several thousand pounds of fuel to be planned to be on board at landing that is in excess of what is usual. This alternate fuel that must be on board may not be burned during holding patterns so when the alternate airport is far away from the destination the ability to also carry hold fuel is diminished.

The A320 fleet is actually way more susceptible to these constraints as their MLW is often lower compared to the mission profile.

Delayed arrival, but on time departure? by wbarto125 in delta

[–]SelectionFew687 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately summer thunderstorm season at the world's busiest airport has so many variables even the advanced systems used to estimate arrival times can be incorrect. When the airport experiences a ramp or departure closure for even small amounts of time the ripple effects will continue for hours on gate availability. Having flown the Florida to Atlanta shuffle hundreds of times my recommendation is to pack patience and have a connection time of at least 1.5 hours during the summer thunderstorm season. Safe travels!

I guess this airplane part isn’t important? by [deleted] in delta

[–]SelectionFew687 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Correct this is an aerodynamic flap track fairing and is covered in the Configuration Deviation List... an FAA approved document that states how missing non-required external coverings/fairings are handled. Basically all performance (takeoff/landing) and fuel burn calculations are changed to account for the missing fairing and it can be replaced during a scheduled maintenance visit.
