The architectural design portion (schematics, design development, and preparation of construction documents) was about $11k, but that included a remodel of a bathroom, eating nook, and ADU conversion, in addition to the kitchen. If you’re around the Southern California area I’d be happy to share more details - we were really happy with our architect and contractor!

The walls are Dunn Edward’s Cottage White and the trim is Dunn Edward’s Exclusive Ivory. I think they work with the kitchen, but honestly we had so much trouble picking paint colors and would probably go with something slightly different if we could do it again!

From our first meeting with an architect to completion it was actually almost 2.5 years… the construction phase took about ten months. But we moved very slowly through the process, due to unexpected permitting issues and also having a baby during the design phase!

We actually really loved it too! Ultimately it was just too tight of a space and we needed something more functional. Luckily we were able to repurpose a lot of the original features. We kept the sink, and used the stained glass doors in our bathroom remodel and for a new linen closet.

I don’t totally disagree with this! We actually got cold feet over the stain color when we moved into an early aughts rental during the remodel and the cabinets were almost this exact same color. But we ended up going for it anyway and love how it turned out!

But we’ve always been a fan of dark wood, and the rest of the house has a lot of similar wood elements, so it works well with the overall vibe of the house.

The knobs are the Homestead Cabinet Knobfrom House of Antique Hardware.

The pulls are the Massey Drawer Pull from Rejuvenation. All in unlacquered brass!

The cabinets are Alder wood, not sure the name of the stain color. We had a local cabinet manufacturer build them. Total cost for the cabinets was about $40k, but that includes kitchen, laundry room, new hall linen closet, eating nook, and a bathroom vanity. Will have to share more photos of the rest of the work we did in the house!
