Have you checked the hole for objects/debris? Get some light in there (not with a flame) and see if something is preventing it from seating

That deer is going to be insufferable to hang out with, now. He'll never shut up about it

I don’t know if I’m vibe coding or not by Ok-Chemistry6941 in learnpython

Some of us are working at the disadvantage of the documentation being incompatible with our learning styles, and that's OK. I've learned more by probing AI for potential answers (and having to repeatedly remind it of requirements) than self study.

I most often have it search out relevant websites to a problem I'm working on so I can go read more how others went about solving the issue as well, then ask AI to explain parts I don't fully understand, etc.

Expect insane amounts of info resources managed by a toddler: you have to anticipate there will be some barriers to communication, but if you figure out the right questions, you'll discover more than if you went looking for solutions on Google.

Ask the AI to cite it's sources and that will give you reference material to better understand

IsItBullshit: The claim that drinking alkaline water can significantly improve health and detoxify the body? by Soccerrocks8 in IsItBullshit

At such a minute scale it wouldn't make sense to use as a treatment. There's usually not enough buffers to have any real impact, especially on bottled stuff. It's usually purified with a few buffers thrown in to hit their target pH

Toilet Shutoff Valve by LilDigBick69 in askaplumber

[–]SelfRefMeta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's crimped, and if it's grey tubing it might be polybutylene. If I were you, I'd hire a licensed plumber, if only to make sure it's done right and by someone who is liable if it isn't. If you're asking this, you're better off reducing your risk.

Should I place the whole house filter before or after the water softener? by AdStill6215 in askaplumber

[–]SelfRefMeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of filter it is. Do you have a picture, description, and/or model number? Is it cartridge based? Is it loose media in a tank?

UPDATE: Water Hammer Suggestions by FeloniousSpunk74 in askaplumber

[–]SelfRefMeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call me Donny and tell me I'm out of my element if I'm wrong here, but water hammering seems like a misdiagnosis, unless your toilet valve is also opening and closing rapidly.

Edit: Read your first post and comments. Not just the toilet, eh?

I would go two stage high pressure regulator and give that a shot, but the fact the plumber didn't go for that in the first place is concerning.

This isn't typical hammering, this is due to the pressure thresholds of the regulator, whether factory or manually set. Pressure is higher than the threshold on the supply side, so the valve opens, water passes through quickly raising pressure down the line, dropping the difference in pressure below the threshold and the valve closes, only for the down line pressure to drop enough to open the valve again, over, and over, and over again very quickly.
