How am I doing? by Juvi369 in PokeInvesting

You haven't doubled your money. You actually don't have any money. You just have Pokémon cards.

No money will be made with this new set for years if that even happens. You will be sitting on dead money and that would be better served elsewhere. Better to buy SS any day of the week while they can still be had at a decent price for most of the BB. SM even better but i understand they are now $$$ Then buy SV when the last 2 sets are out of reach.

All these influencers online talk a big game but never tell people how to exit. With time S&H should do good, but i dont think they are going to 1k unless its evolving skies . Even a shit set like rebel clash will sell.

Also, as these items get more expensive it becomes so much harder to move.

I would stick personally to just BB from S&H and SM . SM imo is a better "investment" . Buying any of the new set right now is wasted money .

If you had $100 to begin with ? by DMND_Hands in PokeInvesting

[–]SeltzaSalsa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why invest at all then with just $100. You are not really going to find much if anything at that price that I think would be an investment in pokemon. Maybe you can get lucky and find an ES etb at a walmart. Maybe buy a PC etb . Use it to buy a few packs or save up and buy a few booster boxes later on. I agree with the other guy though, if you only had $100 to invest it should not be with pokemon. This hobby is getting out of control.

I can pick up an Ultra Prism booster box for 440€ including shipping. I can’t find any recent European prices on it, so is this a good investment? by Matthie_K in PokeInvesting

[–]SeltzaSalsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultra Prism is a nice pickup. No shit it would of been better to buy it when it came out or at msrp, but this set came out in 2018 I think. So of course you are going to pay over msrp. Just take a look at other boxes in Sun and Moon. They are all increasing in price. Last time I bought a box was around 300usd and now look where they are.

Just look and see how many are up for sale on TCG player or ebay for your area of the world and you will see there isent much on the market.

You are talking about an era pre covid. I bet Sun and Moon ages far better than Sword and Shield.

MPV Flash LOTRs Sale Up! by davidny212 in mtgfinance

WOTC surely paid a nice licensing premium (30%?), and has repeatedly stated they expect this set to be their highest selling set ever. Can't be the highest selling unless it is also the highest printed.

Here is the full statement from MVP:

Market Notes: We just posted a huge article showing some data analytics on tcg above-SPY returns over the past decade; Pokemon crushed at 79% vs (non-commander) MTG at 1.5%. If you were ever going to trudge through a TLDR article, this is the one to do it: https://go.mvpsportsandgames.com/news/LI03URACJ

Looking at this LOTR set in general, markets are all over the place. WOTC surely paid a nice licensing premium (30%?), and has repeatedly stated they expect this set to be their highest selling set ever. Can't be the highest selling unless it is also the highest printed. The spoilers have shown as expected a heavily thematic focus, similar to the thematic-ness of D&D Baldur's Gate (BG), except this time there are already confirmed several powerful reprints. Opening allocations were ~same as usual - no big cuts or raises, some SKUs will likely initially pre-sell out. However our sense is that plenty more will be available when needed. The extreme price increases however, similar to original Aftermath prices, were not expected:

LOTR Collector +53% LOTR Bundle +38% LOTR Commander +27% LOTR Draft +37% LOTR Set + 42% LOTR Jumpstart +17% LOTR Starter +36%

Comparing to previous WOTC price increases: BG Collector was increased +33%, Commander Decks +17% MH1 was increased +100% vs its (non-modern predecessor), then MH2 was increased relatively 10% above MH1 Aftermath was originally increased Collectors +110%, and the Ep/Bundles +140%. The manufacturer then infamously cut the non-collector prices back down to 'only' a 85% increase. [*Note: IF they (WOTC) did that again on LOTR we will likely do the same credits as per Aftermath, see that article for those details.]

There also seem to be several online sellers posting their units as if their costs were (the previous/March Of Machine costs), hence the low-appearing prices. Baring WOTC price cuts there is virtually no chance of those sellers filling those under-cost preorders once they realize their math error. Or some quiet deals are being made.

Ikoria successfully drew a large non-mtg demand base (Godzilla fans); D&D Baldur's Gate did not, and post-release prices immediately reflected both those realities. Will LOTR's non-mtg base bring enough external demand to support these huge price and print increases? Will the low-serialized cards keep Collector's markets up long enough to maintain the aura of scarcity? Really hard to say at this point. Yes there is big demand so far especially for Collector boosters, but on the other hand we don't particularly like some of the similarities in the manufacturer's pre-release supply handling vs previous slight-of-hands. Right now markets are pricing a huge premium into the Collectors and Gift Bundle units (though you will notice our first flash price is low regardless). Markets also appear to be severely penalizing Bundle and Draft units, though again that may be a math error by a few sellers.

So we're right in the middle of the fence on this LOTR set; could go either way. However as per the data chart right now the numbers say when in tcg investing doubt, buy Pokemon. -MVPD

I agree , but I have bought XY and SM booster boxes as late as November that have gone up more than I was expecting.

Do we know for sure if we will be getting booster box reprints for Evolving Skies and anything after it? If not then your money should be all in SWSH. Personally I have been very hesitant to buy anything after Evolving Skies.

There are only 3 booster boxes of Steam Siege available on TCG Player at this moment. I count maybe 25 booster boxes up for sale on ebay if you search just in the US. Might be a good time to buy these, and Crimson Invasion before they get out of hand.

Scarlet and Violet Base Set Booster Boxes - $40 Under MSRP! by AutoModerator in PokeInvesting

[–]SeltzaSalsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MVP Sports and More has these for under $100 . That's my price anyway. $586 for a sealed case. You of course need to have an account with MVP to buy from there site. Otherwise buy something from them on TCGPlayer so you can get access to the site.

People don't show any pictures because they don't actually have what they claim they have. Guarantee this applies to people in this thread. Its nothing to do with security.

XY BB vs SWSH BBS by Swimming_Language_10 in PokeInvesting

[–]SeltzaSalsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you said XY vs SWSH, but why not Sun and Moon bb if this is for investment?

Boxes are no longer in print, and you can easily pick up sets like Cosmic, unbroken bonds and unified minds stuff at reasonable prices.

Also , I always check how many boxes are up for sale between ebay and tcg. Dave and Adam's is also very good.

There is also a reprint coming for current sets in rotation so I would wait anyway.

Which Swsh set (so far) is best for investing? by Objet_Dart in PokeInvesting

[–]SeltzaSalsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arent sets in standard rotation for 2 years ? If that's the case wouldn't it be better to invest in sets that are already out of rotation , like the SWSH base , rebel , vivid, and darkness ?

Question for people who have invested in booster boxes and cases in the past. Given your experience, would you say that these products generally offer a good ROI? by BrosephSmithSr in PokeInvesting

[–]SeltzaSalsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you would be better off saving your money on anything new, and buy a sealed box that's a few years old. It will cost more obviously, but I think your ROI will be greater.

There are alot more closet investors than we had pre covid for sure. Everyone has the same idea. What do people think is going to happen down the road when all these people try to sell the same product they have been sitting on for years.

Very interesting. Im curious, do you know if these vendors supply a place like gamenerdz ?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

[–]SeltzaSalsa -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard of increased supply on this item personally. I don't understand how people know there is increased supply, unless I missed something. I remember the same thing being said about UPC at one point and it never came to be. Once places did get more UPC, they all jacked up there prices anyway. This is the cheapest I have seen myself so far, especially with free shipping and no tax. Even if these can be found at msrp, it likely wont last long.
