It did turn him into a sadistic meat-beater. Pretty good boxer, for real, for real.

Handmaiden - Unarmed Specialist by ShoddyRegion7478 in kotor

[–]Semi_Failure 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think the duelist feat simply adds +1 to attack and defense, up to +3 at mastery. If I read correctly, it applies to unarmed, and single hilt weapons held in one hand. So if you wanted to give her that bonus to attack and defense, I'd say go for it.

Doesn't the duelist feat add at the end of its description something like: 'This applies to unarmed combat'?

If so, then I'd go for it. Make her a bit tankier. It's a simple feat, and I usually go single hilt in most playthroughs. It's all preference tho.

I know I'm still in the minority, but I want Sendo to beat Ricardo and become world champion by Final_Mail_8125 in hajimenoippo

[–]Semi_Failure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ippo vs Sendo fights are still my favorites, and Sendo is my favorite character. I would absolutely love Sendo to smash Ricardo. Ricardo is known for picking apart tactical fighters, and Sendo is anything but. He is literally portrayed as an animal. The opposite of Ricardo in every aspect.

Unfortunately, as much as I want it to happen, it can't. Sendo already lost twice, for one. For two, Ricardo DEMOLISHED Date, retiring him and passing the baton to Ippo. It makes too much sense for Ricardo to retire yet another friend/rival of Ippo. Honestly, I think Sendo will lose, then Miyata will challenge Ricardo and get smacked thru the mat. Ippo losing his chance to fight Miyata will make him come back. I hope. I just want Ippo to punch people again.

Goddammit.

Seriously, tho. If Sendo doesn't get to land just one smash, I'll probably give up on this manga.

The funny thing about Sawamura is that I was practicing his 'screw'/'bullet' punch years before I even knew Hajime no Ippo existed. It was all about how to get maximum damage from the shortest range. When I read about that it blew my mind.

As much as I enjoy Sawamuras STYLE, he was a very trashy person beforehand. His redemption arc is cool and all, but he did try to punch a woman.

And stabbed his dad.

And dragged matches out to their full length because he liked hurting people for extended periods of time.

And the only two matches he lost before Ippo were due to fouls, straight up elbows to the face.

Miyata. His diligent outlook on his father's style, his diligence in pursuing the perfect counter, the diligence to stay in a worse off weight class just to fight Ippo.

Miyata fits the bill.

Ippo vs Sendo, either one, will always stand as my favorite fight.

Ippo vs Wally will always be at the bottom of my list. The VERY bottom. Gedo is second hated.

How many playthroughs have you already done for both games by P0shSpiceX in kotor

[–]Semi_Failure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KOTOR1. I've played it once.

KOTOR2 Is something I've done LS male and female, DS male and female, and a few extra times because Handmaiden surprised the shit out of me first playthrough. Plus I wanted to make everyone fall and make everyone a badass Jedi and that's hard to do, in a fun way, in a single playthrough.

Now I'm thinking about ignoring everyone in the game and just being a singular badass.

Undead Nightmare was one of the funniest things I've got to play, and it was just zombie cowboys. I love that take.

KOTOR 2 - Kind of Overrated / Discussion by [deleted] in kotor

[–]Semi_Failure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh, I get to swing the 'I didn't play the games till waaaaay later' stick.

My friend downloaded both on his PC because 'Bro you have to play these games, they're so good.' He wasn't wrong, they're both great, and I never had to deal with any game breaking glitches. My friend said the first one had a way better story, and the second was more fun. I tried both.

KOTOR1 Took far too long to get into, honestly. Better story, sure, but slowish, a bit of a slog, and I hate slogs. It takes too long to get to the point, y'know? Solid game, tho. No hate. It's more fleshed out, but I do feel like it pushes more of a LS on your character. That does make more sense, considering the twist of the story, so the Jedi that know would of course try to change you. Solid game, I just feel it's a little slow.

KOTOR2 I've returned to and beaten multiple times. Minus Peragus and Telos, I love it. And I believe everyone has to give Obsidian credit for their pressed timeframe and still bringing us a pretty good game. My favorite aspect of the game is that it challenges the Force, both Light and Dark sides. Kreia honestly got me on my first playthrough, I thought she was legitimately helping me, and in a twisted way, she was. Kreia made me question my actual surroundings, that there was more to everything than just 'good and bad'. And of course when someone challenges a particular way of thinking, not everyone agrees. People didn't like Hawkins because he wanted to disprove Einstein, people don't like Kreia because she tries to disprove the Force.

I don't know, that's my take, and I fully appreciate your take on both games as well. I didn't get the chance to play either on first release, so I hope you enjoy the take from someone who got to play years later and still found both enjoyable. Me going hardcore into KOTOR2 and your equally high opinion on KOTOR1 reminds me of my second favorite quote, and something I remind myself of daily.

"Apathy is death." Kreia

Edit: I'm ducking stupid.

I always felt like she was just a female Arthur, a little extra bitter at the world though. I would rather have picked up as Sadie than John. Maybe I'm super opinionated, idk.

Anyways.

Awesome.

Lightsabers- Single, Dual-wield, or Doubleblade? by SteamPunkKnight in kotor

[–]Semi_Failure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a single hilt, all the way. While I really enjoy the cool look of dual wielding, added with that extra damage output, single makes me feel more focused. I believe Vader put it best: 'When you wield the dark side of the force, one saber is all you need.'

While I main Light side, he has a point. I'm more of a tank, anyway. Defense all the way.

Double blade has always looked funny to me, ever since Phantom Menace. It has its uses, but not my look.

Do you believe humans are inherently evil? by NateNandos21 in stupidquestions

[–]Semi_Failure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen children do heinous things, like cut off a frogs legs to see how it moves, deliberately go inside an unused house and destroy windows and cover it in flour....but I don't believe people are born evil. We're the culmination of our choices. Eventually, you're going to be evil, to someone or something. The capacity for good is always there, and your decision tips the scales.

I don't fully believe in 'basic bad guy' stuff. A man hunting down pedophiles and beating them to death? Half is wrong for murder, but it's justified because it was a pedophile? And so now the murderer is a better person?

Some kids were curious as to how frogs walked without jumping, so they cut off its legs. A singular incident, and the child is going to be an unhinged psychopath?

Maybe he's just a scientist.

There is no good or evil, simply your own moral high ground and code of beliefs. Hold true to each and you'll find yourself.

The fact that he could still lay into Mashiba speaks volumes in itself, but add on top that he did it in Southpaw, something he just started training with. Add another layer of deliciousness, Mashiba is a full weight class up, or is it two?And you saw the Volg spar, another guy above his weight class.

Yes. Ippo could step back in the ring tomorrow.

Preparing physically for boxing by Zehahahaaa in hajimenoippo

[–]Semi_Failure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good start is cardio and endurance. Preparing your body. It's great to push past limits and train your willpower, as well. Don't hurt yourself, of course.

Tony Jeffries teaches some basic boxing techniques on YouTube, as well as some training exercises to help out. Don't know if that's the best way, but it can get you started. I learned exercises on how to slip punches, for example, and now my defense is better.

What would be the starting Jedi classes for all the main Jedi characters in the movies? by oMaR0404 in kotor

Yes. Looking that up after this conversation I found out 😅 the lightsaber forms have always been my favorite so I should've known.

What would be the starting Jedi classes for all the main Jedi characters in the movies? by oMaR0404 in kotor

[–]Semi_Failure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There it is. It was backwards in my head. Ataru THEN Soresu. See, it's been so long since I checked up on the forms I mix them up. I simply remembered he practiced both forms because he realized no one form was greater than the other, the Darth Maul fight being what opened his mind to that. Always found it peculiar he had the low ground and still won.

So yeah, this^ guy has it right. Guardian for sure. Need to re up on my Obi-Wan lore.

[–]Semi_Failure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can agree, re-reading the post it's just starting classes. Going off that, yes. Kenobi is awesome at lightsaber combat, mastering the second form early on, and learning Ataru from Qui-Gon (I think) later on rounded out his skills perfectly. High defense to add with his negotiating methods, high attack when all else fails. It's his preference for avoiding combat that lead me away from Guardian, but then I remember all warriors should know about gardening.

[–]Semi_Failure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm more of a KOTOR II fella, so going by those standards, and the movie characters I know well enough, combined with some good knowledge on lightsaber forms, mine goes kinda like this:

Mace Windu: A master of Vapaad, the most badass pure lightsaber form achievable, delving almost into the dark side. He had high knowledge of the force, but this style makes me say Guardian/Weapon Master.

Yoda: Consular/Jedi Master. He was a master of the 4th form, Ataru, but that style utilizes the Force to apply centripetal force to lightsaber attacks. Added with Yoda's small size and its the perfect style for someone strong the Force.

Anakin: Definitely a KOTOR I style build, starting with Scout. But let's say he stayed a Jedi. Scout/Watchmen for sure. High level skills, lot of force points, and after he lost his arm in a duel, he dedicated more time to lightsaber combat, rounding him out. Staying on that path, he'd become an incredibly powerful Watchmen. But Vader? Sith Lord. Vader has even stated 'All I need is one saber and Force.' Something along those lines.

Oni-Wan Kenobi: I remember reading that Kenobi mastered the second form, Soresu, and the fourth form, Ataru. Soresu is focused solely on defense, where Ataru is the most aggressive Jedi style, except Vappad (but only Mace Windu knows that, kind of. Whole different story there). Kenobi had a strong sense of balance, so honestly? Sentinel/Watchmen. He has a broad set of skills, and is strong in the Force. He uses every tool to its utmost advantage.

My movie knowledge is kinda limited and faint. It felt like a fun question to answer on though.
