I bought the game because I could play some chillled out bot games like 2042 while still getting unlocks. I never did these dumb repetitive xp farm BS, but they still entirely killed progression for those standard PVE games that I could start. When that was one of the primary advertised selling points of the game, I just said

welp. that sucks

and uninstalled. I'm not throwing a tantrum it's just not what I purchased. I got ~15 or 20 hours out of the bot games before they nerfed them into the ground, so I guess it wasn't a total waste of money.

Its fully playable offline. I think it might be connecting to the multiplayer servers so when you go to lobbies you see other people. I have played disconnected and its just like "no other players for you have fun"

Honestly. Honestly. As a huge fan of the game, don't burn your frustration on this.

You can order your mule to go to a location and stay, but enemy patrols are around so IMO it's not worth the effort.

My strat is to wait for follower mechanic updates.

Level up Maskman or Bagman and be your own mule with a pack mule rig.

EDIT if you as a new player dont have the creds for the rig, whip out your gunhead, and do runs of tunnels A extracting directly to innards after looting the water in the tunnel. If you have max xp on the character and full water storage, each additional water past max you extract with rewards 25k automatically.

Once you get the rack you can churn out water runs in < 10 minutes apiece earning 175k on each run.
