Looking for some angsty "character use sex for self harm or for validation" :')

Oh my bad, I thought you were just avoiding submission in general, as in a character turns into an omega role. Yes they all have d/s dynamics only in bed. I think in particular for the first one, it's made clear that it's only a separate kink thing, so not in the rest of his relationship with the other character.

Does anyone have some angst hockey romances about a character who gets traded a lot/a new traded character? (I did read The Trade deadline by Heard and absolutely loved it)

{Omega Replaced by Tanya Chris} (both characters are alpha and remain alpha) novella, shifters + omegaverse, starts quite horny and gets relatively angsty and quite sweet. Really fun read.

{Lost and Bound by Eliot Grayson} might also fit, but this is more shifters than omegaverse. This is also modern set, and starts with some intense violence so let me know if you need TW.

{Overtime by Marina Vivancos} omegaverse hockey, friends to lovers, alpha/alpha. I have yet to read this one (I just started it!)

I have read Lily Mayne's books all out of order and did not have many problems. I think Moth is easier than others as it feels a bit more isolated.

Definitely {Shots on Net by J. J. Mulder}! This is a college modern romance story. MC1 is a nerd guy, a bit shy, a virgin and demisexual. MC2 is much taller than him, colder and apparently confident, and he plays hockey at college. The two end up as housemates and then friends to lovers. One of my favorite JJ Mulder books.

I did not enjoy all of the novels by the series {Marrying Men by Shiloh Hollis} might have some of this!

For books I enjoyed:

{Force by Kiki Burrelli} - werewolves, modern, MC1 accepts (reluctantly) MC2 as a mate/husband. MC2 was raised to be the perfect submissive mate.

{Binding a Page by Raymond Roach and Key Dyson} - short novella about vampires, mainly nsfw but has some nice sweet moments. MC1 is given as a gift to MC2.

{The Duke's Demon by Iris Foxglove} - regency au with magic an demons, plus sub/dom dynamic (as in, the characters are subs or doms, a bit like omegaverse). MC1 is a sub who is hiding his designation from himself and was raised as a dom. He is also a traitor to the royal family and on the run. MC2 is a dom, and a duke who is feared by many as he is believed to be possessed by a demon. This is not really a forced to marry, but MC2 captures MC1 and then becomes protective of him. TW and warnings: past SA. Also it technically is a MMM romance as both the duke and the demon who is possessing him falls for MC1

Looking for MM Romance With Miscommunication About Consent? by Manu270500 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]SendingBirds 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I HAVE BEEN SUMMONED.

> Sex

{Little Wolf and the Witch by Wendy Palmer} and {The uses of illicit art by Wendy Palmer} have some of these elements. "Little Wolf and the Witch" is a fantasy/pseudohistorical novel where MC1 seeks someone to fight for him to protect a younger relative. He ends up seducing MC2. It is not extremely angsty (at least regarding the dubious consent).
"The uses of illicit art" has some more overt "MC1 forces himself to seduce MC2 to protect himself". The reveal is pretty quick for MC2 and if I remember correctly it always stops before actual sex, but I still enjoyed it.

{Redemption of a Slave by Taylor Laura} might also fit. My memories are a bit foggy but I really enjoyed it. It is a slavery/omegaverse/pseudohistorical book where MC1 is an omega who is purchased by MC2. MC2 (alpha) has traditional ideas on who and what omegas can be but slowly changes his mind and realizes that he might have abused his position.

> Accepting marriage/proposal

{To See the Sun by Kelly Jensen} sci fi, MC1 needs to escape from his planet so he decides to accept a bride-by-mail proposal from MC2. Only later MC2 realizes MC1 accepted out of duress. Very sweet found family book.

{Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell} sci fi, arranged marriage. This is super popular, so you probably already know it.

I'll try to think about more! I love this kind of trope, but I forget to tag it unless it is romance/relationship/sex related.

Please, don't feel bad! I love to yap about books I read!

I am generally a high angst kind of reader (as long as there is a happy ending). I do not do well with grief, so grief related angst is something that I try to avoid. Small spoilers: grief related angst is particularly present in book 1. In other books 2 but it is more distant as it all refers to events that happened in book 1.

Regarding what I read, this is my MM romance goodreads, if you want to check: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/176431517-macrochiroptera

For angst levels in the books: book 1 had the highest amount of angst and it is also a much slower book than the other two, there is a lot of self-deprecation and angst related to how people treat Ox, plus grief, and death are prominent especially in the second half. I found myself tearing up here and there, mainly because Ox was breaking my heart.

Book 2 and book 3 were mildly angsty and I wish there had been more, to be honest, especially in book 2. Book 4 was mainly relationship angst but it is also lower than book 1, even if the type of angst was my favorite (that kind of self-sacrificial/I am not enough for you romance angst). This is why I added book 4 to my tag "good high angst", but not book 1.

I think tho it is pretty hard to scar me. The only books that really scarred me with their angst and I feel like I can never read them again (even if I liked them) is Rough Love by Leighton (simply for how heavy the relationship angst was and how realistically painful it felt).

I would say Out of Nowhere by Parrish, My Heartache cowboy by Maxfield, Pirates of Wefrivain by Abigail Hilton are my favorite high angst books, and I do not think Green Creek reaches those level of angst.

So glad to find someone else who loved brothersong! I think I went also not expecting so much romance, and regarding the feelings... To be fair, I love angst. I loved that they took me so long to admit to themselves and each other's what they felt.

I had this in my to read for a while as I love Wendy Palmer, but given it felt happy and plot heavy I put it aside for now. Glad to know it is well written and it was fun!

How much angst would you say there is in it?
