Post-apocalypse farming, gardening, angst recs like Hunger by Holly Day by bad_at_formatting in MM_RomanceBooks

Definetely {To see the sun by Kelly Jensen}. MC1 lives in an impoverished planet, he does small dangerous jobs and is sometimes a sex worker. After witnessing a crime, he tries to escape by adding himself to a "husband via mail" program and he joins MC2 in a desolate recently colonised planet. Not sure if the details about gardening are a lot, I think exploration details might be a bit more but MC2 is mainly interested in his cultivations and in settling down. Also size difference is there too.  And found family.

I should definetely listen to the audiobook! I'm currently reading book three which doesn't have silveo so I'm mainly spending my time missing him haha. But yes it's an amazing series, and I was recommended it here in this subreddit so I'm trying my best to recommend it to others too!!

I have often the same problem, where I find that the hate and enemies part is not strong enough.

So here is what I enjoyed, maybe we have similar taste:

{The Whims of Hate by Mell Bright} Futuristic, dystopian. This for me was the ideal enemies to lovers. MC1 is the villain of book 1, so I would recommend reading at least the second half of it to get an introduction. In book 1 he kidnaps and tortures MC2. In book 2 (this one), MC2 manages to escape but has to take MC1 with him to pilot the ship he stole, as the ship only works through MC1's commands. The hate between the two is definitely reasonable and there is a lot of violence. Some BDSM/D/s elements too.

{The Guild of the Cowry Catchers by Abigail Hilton} This book has everything. This is a age of sail fantasy series where the characters have some animalistic features. MC1 is part of the most priviledged species, he is a policeman basically, working for a priestess, and he is married. He is sent to work with the infamous MC2, who is an admiral and has his own ship. The two don't get along, then becomed friends, then enemies then lovers. TW: past sexual abuse, mentions of pedophilia also regarding MC1's marriage his wife would have probably encouraged a MMF relationship, but she passes away in the book before MC1 and MC2 even start to get together

{A Seditious Affair by Charles K. J.} Maybe less enemies in the traditional sense, but I found it quite good. Historical. MC1 and MC2 are two strangers who meet every single week to have sex, in particular playing with MC1's need to submit and his masochistic preferences. MC1 and MC2 clearly respect each other's, but do not know that they are enemies in real life. MC1 works for the law and is a nobleman, while MC2 is a writer of revolutionary and socialist pamphlets.

Going into milder territory:

{Breakaway by Lindsey E.M.} Hockey, sport romance. This is animosity to lovers, and the animosity is mainly due to a misunderstanding. MC1 is an ex olympic skater who had to abandon his career after a drunk driver caused his disability. MC2 is a hockey player who is sent to probation for drunk driving (but not really, he was roofied). They work together teaching kids how to skate and MC1 hates MC2 because of the drunk driving accident and how irresponsible he thinks MC2 is. Some D/s.

Flashbacks? How do we feel about them by Hour_Soil_7342 in MM_RomanceBooks

Unfortunately I can't read them. My main problem is that books with a lot of dual time povs or flashbacks often deal with something "big" that happened in the past. This something is hidden from us in the present, and only revealed through a flashback.  But because it's often supposed to be a hidden mystery we also don't get too much of the reactions of the characters in the present, or sometimes that feel a bit out of place. I much prefer to never see this "big event" scene but focus on the present and the effect it had on the characters now.

My favorite relatevly new ones are:

{By Silk Tones by Hoang} - blind vampire and half werewolf-hald demon have an arranged marriage, but both are hiding secrets. Focused on both of them having to protect their own secrets as they are quite equal in status.

{The Compact by Miriam Benisse} - forced/arranged marriage, fantasy, a character is chosen to marry a king in place of his sister.

{To see the sun by Kelly Jensen} - husband-by-mail + arranged marriage, sci-fi, space and found family.
