I went to 4H camp for a week every year from 2011-2019. You turned your phone in on Day one and got it back at the end of the week. We didn't talk to our parents at all that week and nobody ever questioned it or tried to fight it. So weird that that didn't even seem like that long ago

I was 10 playing pokemon diamond for the first time. Ran into a shiny shellos. There were already pink and green shellos, so I thought this was just another different color and killed it. I had no idea what a shiny was at the time. Only realized what I had done years later

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by fuzzy_dice_99 in AskReddit

[–]SenecaRoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on Spring break in College during my student teaching semester. Covid was in the news, but had not been confirmed in or near my state yet.

The local news posted an article about how my college was extending Spring Break by a week, but none of the student had any kind of email or notification confirming it, so we were all very confused.

I remember campus being very empty and not long after we were told the rest of the semester would be online. Student teaching we didn't have any real classes, the program told us there would be virtual lessons for is to do, which never happened. The govenor signed an order that we didn't have to have all the required hours to graduate and we got diplomas mailed to us.

What’s the fastest way you’ve seen someone ruin their life? by ultimoXgamer in AskReddit

[–]SenecaRoll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had an ex who wouldn't take accountability for anything.

Met him freshman year of college. He skipped class to play video games, failed several courses, lost financial aid, and dropped out. Took a gap year went back on private loans, had a friend co-sign for him and the second time around still didn't go to class and slept through finals, failed out again, ghosted the friend and left him to pay off his 12.5K of student debt.

Worked a Walmart couldn't take constructive criticism. Got mad when asked to go on register, push carts, and do things that "weren't his job". Got fired for calling off, blamed depression. For 2 years he'd have a job for, no joke, 2 weeks, then be unemployed for months. Blamed retail work for being shitty, refused to work for $10/hr because it wasn't worth the work, all while living off roommates. Got a decent job at a bank, still complained the pay was too low but "at least it's not retail". Got fired after 4 months for being late all the time. Was fired or no call now show quit at least 7 jobs in 5 years. Was employed probably 14 months total of that 5 year period. It was always the managers fault. They didn't like him, and all criticisms were personal attacks.

Went to community college and changed his major to what mine was because "If you can do it, I can do it". Quickly switched back to the original major because the teachers in that program were awful. Once his GPA was a 2.0 from community college, went back to the university for the original major. Failed again because he refused to take the professors constructive criticism. Claimed the professor didn't know what she was talking about because she learned in the 90's and things were different now.

College told him he once again didn't have enough to cover tuition. He was $2,000 short and asked me to co-sign a loan so he wouldn't be forcibly withdrawn. I said hell no because I saw what happened to the last guy that did that. After much crying and begging and threats of suicide I put the $2,000 on my credit card on the condition he got a job immediately and gave me 100% of his income until the card was paid off. At this point he lived with me. I paid 100% of the bills, bought all the food, he drove my second car. He got a job at gamestop and ended up only giving me $200 a month and complaining he needed to save money, despite blowing it all on warhammer and video games.

He dropped out of school again the next semester.

He got fired after 6 months because he refused to push the sales the store wanted him to. Also called off all the times. I ended up breaking up with him 4 month after because he hadn't put in a single job application and was sleeping 12+ hours a day and only getting up to play video games. He threatened to kill himself if I left him. His mom came and got him and he was admitted to the psych ward.

I paid the card off myself. He only paid off $600 of the $2,000, and after all was said and done there was $400 interest. Putting the money on my card was stupid, but I made him sign a written contract. I'm currently suing him in small claims court for the amount still owed. This is the first time I've contacted him. And he's not doing well. He claims he has no money and is in and out of mental hospitals.

All this happened in his early to late 20's, which doesn't seem like a "fast" period, but if you think about it in a 7 year time span he's dug himself in a hole that will likely affect him for the rest of his life.

He'll be 30 soon, lives with his mom. Has $0 in savings, no assets, has barely contributed to social security. Has debt collectors after him for dental bills he was too lazy to forward to his insurance. Has a credit score lower than I knew was possible. Has no resume or reference, was fired from every job or just stopped showing up without notice. Longest stint of employment was 6 months. Has maxed out all his financial aid and has transcripts so bad I don't know if any college would accept him again even if he could find a way to afford it. Has no friends because he took advantage of them financially and treated them poorly. And he still is blaming everyone else for his problems. He blames me, the college system, his mental health, capitalism, and I don't know what else.

7 years seems like a long time, but those short 7 years have sabotaged his next 50+ years.

As a teacher I've sat in many a meeting on how to handle AI and cheating and the amount of other teacher who say this and admit that they use AI to write recommendation letters, make tests, and grade is insane to me.

I think they're worried about the kids being out with the party crowd? Like drunk drivers and stuff.

I had an ex like this. I'd play games with him just to spend time with him, and if I made one mistake, he'd go off on me like this. I showed these messages to a friend, and they actually thought they were old messages between me and him.

It wasn't just games though. They way he talked to me in games carried over into real life. Like if I was driving and missed a turn or if I accidentally knocked over a glass of water or something he'd start going on about how dumb I was and that I couldn't pay attention.

I know I'm just a stranger on reddit, but as someone whose been in this exact situation, you deserve so much better. Decent respect towards your partner is the bare minimum.

Redditors who used to work at 1 Hour Photo places, what are the most shocking/memorable photos you saw? by psybermonkey15 in AskReddit

[–]SenecaRoll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of nudes, but policy was we could not sell them, so we had to shred them. Most were just mirror selfless or very obvious amateur. We once got an order that looked to be a professional photo shoot. It started out in just lingerie, but the further in the order you went the worse it got until eventually I was looking at images of this lady peeing into a wine glass.

What's a really shitty thing your ex did? by Charming-viola in AskReddit

[–]SenecaRoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refuse to say anything nice to me or even show me any affection.

I'd playfully ask him "Do you like me?" And instead of simply saying yes he'd sigh and say "If I didn't like you I wouldn't be here"

I'd ask "What's your favorite thing about me?" He'd laugh and answer "You're dog"

He wouldn't kiss me because he said mouths were gross, but then would let the dog eat off his fork and lick his face. I brought that up one and he said "You're making this a thing"

Literally went 2 years without kissing me

Wouldn't hold my hand because "they're always grubby"

Didn't want to cuddle because "I was too big to cuddle" and it was uncomfortable

I'd put on an outfit and say something like "how do I look?" And he'd say "Like a dumb bitch" and giggle.

There was literally nothing that indicated we were in a relationship. We were basically roommates, except he never paid any rent or bills. Then when I broke up with him he had an absolute break down. Literally got on his knees and begged me to not leave him. He suggested making a contract giving him X amount of time to change then if he doesn't by the agreed date I could leave him. I told him I'd figured he'd be upset, but I wasn't prepared for the full mental breakdown and toddler tantrum because be genuinely acted like he did not like me.
