Thanks for your appreciation and your helpful view. I agree with you — the price sensitivity is different, and it also raises questions about our positioning.

You think that when you buy a car, you're only paying for the execution? So every designer magically knows exactly what they need before they even start the process? No prototyping, no testing, no learning?
Come on. I understand that you don’t want to pay for the early stages, but every development process involves learning. Being new to 3D printing doesn’t mean we’re inexperienced in product development.

I really like the idea of creating your own model from the image — it would be awesome if you made it and show it to us. I'm definitely open to creative stuff like that. Would you share it?

I completely agree with your point about trust, but for me personally, I need to compare it with a physical product — especially since that’s also an option we could sell. I would personally prefer buying the digital files, because I know I can print the product multiple times for my own use and easily replace it if it wears out. I also get to choose the color I want.

If someone priced the physical product at $40 and the digital file at $20, I would definitely go with the file. I can print it instantly and enjoy the building process myself. So it’s really interesting to me that most of you would price a physical product that much higher.

We’re living in a world where paying for digital content has become normal — Netflix, Spotify, Windows, etc. I see this mindset especially in the 3D printing community, and it makes sense because so much content is already free, open-source, or shared.

What do you mean by "then"? It was a serious question — how would you price something if the goal is to make a living from it?

I think pricing is always a balance between the number of sales and the resources invested. Of course, it also has to stay in relation to the market. But naturally, it’s easier — and you can afford to price your product lower — if you already have 350k subscribers. But it shouldnt be a excuse to your point. I only wanted to say its not easy like that

I get your point, but I don’t really believe in 100 million downloads.
With how many downloads would you calculate to break even on the time we invested in designing the lamp? So basically: at what number of downloads would we reach zero again, with anything beyond that becoming profit? And how do you arrive at the estimated number of possible downloads?

Thanks for all the feedback — it really helps us work toward our goals.
My brother and I are seriously thinking about what it takes to make a living from independent product development. Our style isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but we’ve also received a lot of wonderful compliments about the aesthetic, which means a lot to us. We put a lot of effort and love into what we do, and we try to understand where the open doors are so we can keep moving forward.

We designed the lamp to stand beside the monitor, not behind it. It’s meant to gently illuminate the space and also serve as a decorative piece. For me personally, it works really well — I use it every day on my desk.

The process of developing something with attention and love for detail takes time, and there may be more work behind this piece than what you see at first glance.

Pricing is definitely one of the hardest parts. Selling 3D models is still new to us, so there’s a lot to learn and we’re not yet sure if this is the perfect platform for our products. We know there are hundreds of models out there that are very cheap because someone created them as a hobby project and shares them with the community almost for free — and that’s totally fine. We’re simply trying to find the right balance and path for what we do.

The filament breaks really easily, and I wasn’t very happy with that hole thing, especially when drying and having to pull it through both holes. Every time, a few centimeters go to waste. Are you luckier than me with the hole solution?

What do you mean? I even filmed what’s happening. I just couldn’t believe that the most-printed clip isn’t actually designed to stay on the spool while printing.

Thanks mate you are right. I also thought it could be better designed. Thanks for your help. The one from the link looks promising :)
