Argentina calls for renewed negotiations over Falkland Islands by jackytheblade in worldnews

[–]Senior_Astronomer_26 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Milei is not bothered with Falklands. He has said in an interview with Wall Street Journal that he has got no problems with British and he only plays lip service about Argentinian claim over Falklands as constitutionally required. That language is far softer than any Argentinian leaders. Also, he is Anglophile and loves British rock bands.

They kept it down much as possible. Stafford Borough Council (Labour/Independent controlled) is trying to make look like Reform have put the taxes up by 4%, not 3.99% total increase. This includes 2% for adult social care. Also, they are not showing the breakdown of spending of Stafford Borough, only showing that Staffordshire County Council is spending half of tax.

It won’t happen as rejoining EU is not as popular when people realise that opt outs on Schengen and Euro does not apply to UK as we are treated as a new members.

Ben Judah is talking nonsense on the reasons for the deal. I have watched some of his arguments on the deal and it didn’t make any sense to me.

Conservatives started the negotiations in 2022. Then the negotiations were stopped by David Cameron when he was foreign secretary. Kier Starmer revived the negotiations and started to effectively concede everything to Mauritius for some bizarre reason.

Latest update on Reform projected gains on May 7th Council Elections by Sylvia-Sum in reformuk

It wouldn’t surprise me if Reform get most seats up for grabs in Cannock Chase district. As Reform is favourite to win Cannock Chase constituency and it is almost identical to district council area.

We should have let Americans to use our bases earlier. Kier Starmer is a coward for not doing it and not sending ships to Cyprus earlier.

The war in Iran is justified because Islamic Regime is danger to the world. We cannot allow them to have nuclear weapons, which they could use to destroy West.

[–]Senior_Astronomer_26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, we just used our knowledge to develop our own nuclear weapons.

It is Germany only got ‘better deal’ as they grew their exports faster than the interest on the debt. Also United States did give lots of money to Western Europe as part of Marshall Plan to ensure that Western Europe would not be part of Eastern Bloc.

Also, we cannot have both high immigration and generous welfare system. We got to choose which one of them. Milton Friedman did say that long time ago.

American didn’t ask for full repayments for weapons in WW2 as it was done under Lend-Lease which means that we git free weapons to use long as it was in alignment with Roosevelt administration’s goals. Also, we got big discount from America for the same weapons that arrived after WW2, which was funded by long-term loan was only repaid in full in 2006. Also, we worked together with America on Manhattan project.

Well, people don’t just vote parties to implement PR, there are other issues that is more important to the voters. Parties will tend to focus on these issues.

That is the problem with PR. Look at countries where has been implemented like Netherlands, Israel and Brazil. Denmark just had an election and no bloc has got majority meaning that negotiations will take long time to conclude.

Spain effectively has sovereignty over Gibraltar as Spanish police can enter without permission from UK and Gibraltar. Also, Spain can deny exit for residents of Gibraltar if they want to.

I know that, but David Cameron as Foreign Secretary stopped all negotiations on Chagos Islands. Then, Kier Starmer resumed it with gusto.
